Kay Elizabeth Hunt Miskel was born December 17, 1942 in Inglewood, California to Walter and Elizabeth Hunt. In 1949 at 6 years 6 months of age, Kay along with her sister Madelyn and twin brothers Jimmy and Jerry were adopted by Walter's brother and sister in law, Herman and Mildred Hunt of Camargo, OK. Blessed to have Herman and Mildred as their parents, Kay became the sixth of ten brothers and sisters, living in Camargo, OK. Kay's childhood was full of great adventure and competition as she played basketball and softball for the Camargo Blackhawks. Kay was awarded the "Outstanding Senior Girl" medal by the American Legion in 1961.
Kay loved to travel. Emery would say "let's go" and Kay and the kids would get in the car and not even bother to ask where the destination was…later we learned that a good deal of the time, Emery didn't know either. As long as Kay was going somewhere, she was happy. Kay and Emery and boys went all over the United States on vacation year after year. She planned and organized more camping and boating trips than can be counted. Kay would also be most content, at one of her son's ball games. She attended every single one of the boy's games, regardless of where and weather nor time or distance would deter her. Later mom was the guiding force in organizing family trips to OU away games. Mom dearly loved making arrangements and planning the trips to Alabama, Oregon, Washington, Miami, Florida State and Notre Dame.
On March 20, 1960 she married her high school sweetheart, Emery Edward Miskel. On March 20, 2010, Kay and Emery celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their boys and their families. Kay and Emery enjoyed 57 years of marriage providing an example of true love and devotion to her children and grandchildren. Together they had three boys, Timothy, William, and Mitchell. After moving several times, they settled their family in Woodward, OK where Kay worked as the school secretary at Westwood and Cedar Heights Elementary for 16 years. She was recognized for her dedicated service to the school district. In 1991, Kay and Emery settled in Oklahoma City.
Kay always enjoyed cooking and began her cooking lessons helping Mildred prepare the family meals. She continued to learn from her mother in law, Mary Jean Miskel. Kay won 1st place for her recipe of deviled eggs at the Taloga county fair. This and many of her other recipes have been handed down to her children and grandchildren.
Kay was an active member of the CWF at New Covenant Christian Church. She loved cooking for Mobile Meals and fellowship with the other Christian women.
She is preceded in death by her parents: her mother, Elizabeth Lane Hunt, father, Walter Milton Hunt, mother, Anna Mildred Blair Hunt, and father, Herman Edward Hunt. Her brothers, sisters, and inlaws: brother, Marvin Hunt; and wife, Lea Hunt; sister, Geraldine Hunt Williamson; and husband Linn; brother, Gail Hunt; and wife, Cladene; and sister, Mary Ann Hunt Berry.
She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Emery Edward Miskel. Her sons, Timothy Glen Miskel and wife Becky Kay Jones Miskel of Mesquite, TX; William Edward Miskel and wife Joi Elizabeth Jones Miskel of Edmond, OK; and Mitchell Emery Miskel of Hurst, TX. Her grandchildren Allie Kay Miskel, Bethany Ann Miskel Oliver, Asa Cain Oliver, Matthew Emery Miskel, Taylor Lane Whittlesey Miskel, Cassadi Lynn Cox, Hannah Grace Miskel, Katherine Grace McClendon, Mia Julianna Miskel, Cameron Elizabeth Miskel, Luke Ryan Miskel, Geoffery Alexander McClendon, William Walter Miskel. Her great granddaughter, BrookeLee Kay Miskel. Her loving brothers and sisters: brother in law, Bob Berry of Elk City, OK;sister in law, Elaine Stantz and husband Lucky, of Camargo, Ok; sister Margie, and husband Lyman McDonald, of Laramie, WY; sister, Madelyn Ethridge of Edmond, OK; Bill Hunt, and wife Janice of Cache, OK; brother, Jimmy Hunt, and wife Gayla of Woodward, OK; brother, Jerry Hunt and wife Joni of Edmond, OK. And a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and great friends.
