Emery Keith McDonald was born March 30, 1929, north of Vici, in Woodward County, to Roy and Hazel (Bennett) McDonald. He passed from this life February 18, 2015, at the age of 85.
Keith attended all 12 years at Vici School, graduating in the Class of 1947. Keith loved all sports and was on the football team at Vici High. He was only a freshman and was able to play with his older brother Dale. That would be the last year Vici had a football team. In later years, he loved playing dominoes and cards with friends and family.
Keith discovered his joy in work when he went on harvest with his father. He later had a crew of his own. Every year, after harvest season, he would get a job and as soon as harvest rolled around again, he would quit his job and go on harvest. One year, he was in California working as a taxi driver. He was doing very well and it was exciting for him, but harvest was about to start back home and he wanted to get back to Oklahoma. He said harvesting was in his blood and he just had to be out there doing what he loved best. He was always pleased when he could take Billy, Arthur or Jimmy with him, and they enjoyed going.
Keith met Lois Hopkins and they were married in 1961. He became the step-father to Butch and they made their home in Woodward. Keith always loved kids and was very proud when he became a grandpa to a very pretty, blond haired little girl, Melissa Ann. She loved her Papa and soon would come to live with him and Lois and they adopted her. He was perfect in her eyes and she in his. They moved to North Dakota for a short time and then he returned back to Oklahoma. In 1975 he married Lynda Espy. He became the step-father to Gary Don, Sandra, and Alice (Tuttie). Keith made their home on the old home place where he was born. He became a grandfather to Bradley, Justin and Natasha. Then along came Stephanie, Danielle, Christina & Jacob. He was a pal to them was very proud of them all. Keith was so proud when his first great-grandson, Jimmy Don, was born and was again proud when he met his newest great-granddaughter, Winry, just the day before he became very ill.
Later Keith and Lynda moved to Texhoma, Oklahoma, where he went to work for the county. He retired in 1998, and moved back to Vici. They made their home in the Manor Apartments before moving to the Vici Nursing Home in 2013.
Keith was baptized in the Luthern Church in Texhoma in 1993, and later attended the Community Christian Church in Vici.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters Fern Hill and Lena Young, 2 brothers, Jack, as an infant, and Dale McDonald, and a very special cousin, Everett Hutchens.
He is survived by his wife Lynda of Vici; daughter Melissa Ann and Jimmie Payne of Cordell, OK; step-daughters Sandra and Tommy Ramos of Dumas, TX, Alice and Jack Durland of San Antonio, TX; step-son Gary Don Jacobs of Laverne, OK; 9 grandkids; 13 great-grandkids; special cousin Carl McDonald of Vici; many nieces and nephews which he loved and they loved him.
