Obituary

Laveta Nevada (Rohrer) Peard Middlestetter was born one mile west of Camargo, OK at the home of her parents, Jessie (Jack) and Bessie May (Butler) Rohrer on February 2, 1923.  She completed her earthly journey at her home in Vici, OK. on January 13, 2022 at the age of 98 years, 11 months and 11 days.  She grew up in the Camargo community and her school days were spent in the Camargo school system where she excelled on the basketball court. Laveta was united in marriage to Kenneth D. (Shorty) Peard at the home of his parents on May 18, 1941.  Thus began a multitude of moves and adventures beginning in 1942 with a move to California. Thru the years they lived in California, Colorado, and Idaho.  Laveta worked at the Ordnance Base in Stockton, CA., as a waitress in Newport Beach, CA. and also at Canon City, CO.  She was a supervisor at Babcock Electronics Co. in Costa Mesa, CA. for 17 years. Due to Shorty's failing health they returned to Vici, OK. in 1972 to be near his family until his passing in 1976.

In 1979 Laveta was united in marriage to Thad Middlestetter and they were together seven years before his passing in 1986.  Her final companion was Owen L. Maddox, a long time friend from her school years in Camargo.  They spent numerous good days camping, traveling, fishing and enjoying retirement until his passing in 2005.

Laveta was a women of many talents, she enjoyed cooking, was a master at crochet, embroidery and knitting. Her intricate hand work was amazing and earned her numerous blue ribbons and best of show awards at the local fair. She was a walking family history book and loved sharing that information. She also enjoyed gardening, puzzles, feeding and watching the birds.  Her pride and joy was her yard and maintaining her beautiful array of flowers.  Her patio was a great place to enjoy the fruits of her labor and a good cup of coffee.

Laveta lived a life full of hardships, challenges and successes. She was a hard worker, a caregiver, never backed down from voicing her opinion and was full of determination.  These attributes were all contributing factors in her living such a long life.  She loved her family and even with her health issues she expected everyone to abide by her philosophy as follows."I really think your integrity and your ethics are really important. If you can't do it the right way, just don't do it at all and you have to say what you can do and do what you say."   Her final wish was to remain in her home.  The past several years she was blessed with the tremendous gift of love and dedication of some wonderful caregivers and the tender care of Traditions Hospice without which her family could never have fulfilled her final wish.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Jessie and Bessie Rohrer, three special men in her life, Shorty Peard, Thad Middlestetter and Owen Maddox.  A sister, Lela Marie Rohrer, her brother David Charles Rohrer, brother in laws, Phil Kilian and Ed Roberds, step mother Gertrude Rohrer and step sister, Martha Mae French. There are numerous treasured loved ones from the Peard, Butler and Rohrer families and many lifelong friends who were waiting for her homecoming,

Memories of happy times will be shared by her family, Twila Pauline Kilian of Lakewood, CO.,  Donald Rohrer and wife Annie of Vici, OK., Linda Roberds of Bridgeport, TX., Frankie Rohrer of Sedro Woolley, WA. Nieces and nephews Laveta loved dearly, cousins in all directions and Faye Peard Puffinbarger, they checked on each other every day.
