IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lavina Mae
Mitchell
October 28, 1926 – October 29, 2022
Lavina Hanan Mitchell was born to her parents, C.T. and Faye (Bolar) Hanan on the family farm northwest of Arnett, OK. on October 28, 1926. She was the first girl born to them after having had three boys, Claude, Clifford and Roy. Later, another brother, Verl and a sister, Norma were added to the family. Lavina enjoyed growing up with her siblings on the family farm, even with the milk fights while helping their Dad with milking the cows by hand. She attended Arnett Public Schools all twelve years and participated in band and sports especially basketball. She was a great basketball player according to several people who had watched her play. She was named the Best All Around Girl in Ellis County in 1939 and 1940. Lavina attended the Arnett Church of Christ and was baptized at the age of eighteen. She truly loved her church family through the years and enjoyed singing congregational church hymns. Singing and harmonizing with her family also brought great joy to her. After graduating from high school, Lavina worked in the county assessor's office in the Ellis County Courthouse and she began dating Earl Mitchell. Their courtship was interrupted as Earl joined the U.S. Army Air Corp. in 1943. Following his honorable discharge from military service, the young couple were united in marriage on April 28, 1946. To this union, two children were born, Carol Ann and later, a son Bill. It was a good life on the family farm and watching their children grow up. During this time, they acquired a son in law as their daughter Carol Ann married Curt Wieland. Earl and Lavina continued living on the farm for 63 years before moving to Arnett in the year 2000. After moving to Arnett, Earl's health began to decline and he passed from this life on May 4 th , 2009. Lavina carried on, she continued to enjoy her family and attending church until succumbing to her own health issues. She lived a long, good life, bringing joy, laughter and of course, instructions to her family. She was always more interested in giving to others before herself. She left this life on October 29, 2022, one day after her 96 th birthday, bringing sadness to her family and friends but joy in knowing she is now with our Lord.
Lavina is preceded in death by her husband, Earl Mitchell, her parents Clarence and Faye Hanan, her brothers Clifford Hanan and wife Maebelle, Bud Hanan, Claude Hanan and Roy Hanan and her brother in law Willis Mitchell and wife Georgia. She leaves to mourn, her daughter Carol Ann and husband Curt Wieland of Buffalo, OK. and her son, Bill Mitchell of Arnett, OK., her sister Norma Sibley of Denton, TX. and sister in law, Wanda Hanan of Arnett, OK. as well as numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
