Obituary

Lawrence James Bodley, Sr. was born in Canasaraga, New York on August 31, 1935. He passed away on January 12, 2009 at the age of 73.

Larry married Margaret Lee and they shared 46 wonderful years together. The family home was a place of constant activity, raising their ten children, four girls and four boys along with a niece and a nephew. He enjoyed watching all of them play sports.

Larry was a dairy farmer in New York when he decided to move his family to Shattuck, Oklahoma in October of 1976. He then began working in the oilfield during the oil boom. He loved working in his garden, and if you went to his home today you would still find tomatoes growing in the window. As he got a little older, he began delivering newspapers for the Ellis County Capital and continued for 18 years.

In 1993, Larry and Margaret opened a woodcraft shop in Shattuck. Larry was the builder and Margaret the painter. In his "semi" retirement years Larry began working at the Venture grocery store in Shattuck and loved to greet and visit with all the customers.

Larry and Margaret have been longtime members of the Assembly of God Church in Shattuck and Larry always enjoyed singing church hymns.

Those family members preceding Larry in death are his parents, Allen and Leona Bodley; son, Michael Bodley; daughter, Gail Barrett; brothers, Harry, Richard, and Robert Bodley; and sister, Helen Sulkowski.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Margaret of the home in Shattuck; children, Nancy Sager, Lora Bodley, Robin Giesigh and husband John, Larry Bodley and wife Traci, Ken Bodley and wife Keri, and Roger Bodley and wife Liz; niece, Cindy Hernandez and husband Tino; nephew, David Berrios and wife Tami; by twenty grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. Larry and Margaret would especially like to thank Janice McCollough for all her help at their home these past few years.
