Obituary

Leona Mae "Lee" Simms passed peacefully from this life, with her family at her side, on May 3, 2008 after a brief illness. Lee was born April 7, 1930 in Eureka, Kansas to Henry F. and Ella Mae Frances (Monfort) Myers, and was 78 at the time of her passing. Lee attended a small country grade school and completed her high school education at Cherokee County Community High School, in Columbus, Kansas graduating with the Class of 1949.

Lee was united in marriage to John B. Conyers in Eureka, and their marriage was blessed with the birth of their three children; Paul Eric "Ric", Jeanette Leigh, and Deborah Kay "Debbie". Lee and John made their home in Haysville, Kansas for a time before moving to Spencer, Oklahoma in 1962.

After the move to Oklahoma Lee began working for Continental Oil Company in Oklahoma City. In 1964, she began working in the Orthopedic Office at OU Health Sciences Center as an Administrative Assistant to Dr. Don H. O'Donohue, and remained in the Orthopedic Department for seventeen years.

In 1980 Lee met retired Air Force Master Sergeant, Harry C. Simms. They were united in marriage the following year in Del City, Oklahoma where they made their home. Harry brought to the marriage daughters, Cindi, Sherri, Debbie, and Holly, and son, Buddy.

Lee was baptized as a young woman. After moving to Oklahoma she transferred her membership from Haysville Methodist Church to the Spencer Methodist Church where she attended with her children and was active as an M.Y.F. sponsor.

Lee was a truly loving and devoted mother to her children and grandchildren, always putting them first. She was a lover of the great outdoors. Lee enjoyed working in her yard and flower beds, and weather permitting, that's where you could always find her. She spent many years boating and camping at the lake with her family, and in 1988 she and Harry bought their first cabin at Lake Tenkiller. Lee enjoyed bowling and made many lifetime friends on the various leagues she was a member of. She was a long-time OU football fan.

Those preceding her in death are her husband, Harry C. Simms and parents, Henry and Ella Mae Myers. Those loved ones remaining to cherish her memory are her children, Ric Conyers and wife Kathy of Oklahoma City, Jeanette Delano and husband Rod of Camargo, OK, and Debbie Dodson and husband Bob of Oklahoma City; by grandchildren, Erica Barnhart and husband Greg, Mark Conyers and wife Miranda, Jesica Allsbrook and husband Jerry; by step-grandchildren Matt Graham and Jessica Grant; by 9 great-grandchildren; by sister, Mary Walsh and husband Ray of Fairway, KS; by brothers, Henry Myers and wife Jean of Zapata, TX and Fred Myers and wife Pat of Wichita, KS; by many nieces, nephews, other family members and a multitude of friends.
