Obituary

Leo Clark Carman was born July 8, 1930 in Camargo, Oklahoma to Arthur Franklin and Sylva Mae (Clark) Carman. He passed peacefully from this life on May 7, 2012, in Wichita, Kansas, at the age of 81.

Leo's youth was spent growing up in Camargo and attending the local school all twelve years. He graduated from the Camargo High School with the Class of 1949. After graduation he attended a year at Oklahoma A & M College, in Stillwater, Oklahoma, before entering the United States Navy in 1951. Leo proudly served his country in the Korean Conflict as a Radarman Second Class. He was awarded the Korean Conflict Service Award and was honorably discharged from service in 1955.

During his enlistment, Leo married the love of his life, Miss Betty Jean Cleveland. They were united in marriage on March 31, 1952 in San Francisco, California. They welcomed two sons into the family; Eric Lee and Gregory Chris. The family made their home in the states of California, Hawaii, Oklahoma, and Kansas. After Leo's discharge from the Navy the family lived in Wichita. They later moved to Hutchinson, Kansas for a time before returning to Wichita to make their permanent home.

Leo's career was working as a wholesale and retail Credit Manager. He worked for Commercial Credit in Wichita, Credit Bureau of Reno County and for Derby Refining Company. He was a member of the NATCA and the Kiwanis and served as an officer in both.

He enjoyed spending his free time gardening, traveling, reading and taking long walks. He always liked watching the birds and working with horses. Getting to spend time with Betty and the boys as well as his large extended family was always a treat for him.

Leo was preceded in death by his son, Gregory Carman; parents, Arthur and Sylva Carman; brother, Marion; a sister-in-law, brother-in-law, nephew-in-law and their two children. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Betty of the home in Wichita; son, Eric Carman and wife Cathy of Topeka, Kansas; five brothers, three sisters, many well loved nieces, nephews and a lifetime of friends.
