Leona "Cissie" Nunez

Leona Faye (Crowder) Nunez, lovingly known as Cissie or Roo Roo went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 9, 2026, at the age of 70.

Born on March 29,1956, in Woodward, Oklahoma, Cissie was the daughter of James William and Leaun (McComas) Crowder. She spent her childhood in Gage, Oklahoma, where she attended school and graduated with the Class of 1974. Following graduation, she attended beauty school in Colorado Springs, Colorado. After returning home, she worked in her mother’s restaurant, Leaun’s Cafe, and later furthered her education through business and office courses at Woodward Vo-Tech.

On February 14, 1994 she married the love of her life, Octavio Nunez. Together they made their home in Shattuck, Oklahoma, where they raised three children: James, Doug, and Julie. Family was the center of Cissie’s life, and she loved them fiercely. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She especially cherished her grandchildren and treasured every moment spent creating memories with them.

Cissie dedicated much of her life to serving others through her work with Shattuck and Gage Public Schools as the Director of Child Nutrition. During her 25 years in the school cafeterias of Shattuck High School, Gage Public Schools and Shattuck Elementary she was blessed to serve not only her own children and grandchildren, but countless students and families throughout both communities.

Cissie found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved traveling, shopping, and spending time with family and friends. She was a devoted fan of Shattuck Indian baseball, proudly cheered on the Oklahoma Sooners and the Oklahoma City Thunder, and never met a jewelry case she could pass without stopping to admire its treasures.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Leaun Crowder; her sisters, Dorothy Arthaud, Janet Pierce, and Delores Houston; her brother, Terry Crowder; her brothers-in-law, Bill Houston and Kevin Diercks; and her great-nephew, Pacer McSperitt.

She is survived by her husband, Octavio Nunez; son James Crowder and Melissa; son Doug Crowder and Lane; and daughter Julie Fitz and Courtney all of Shattuck, Oklahoma.

She was blessed with twelve cherished grandchildren: Cade and Cantyn Crowder; Cooper, Creed, Chace, Adlee, and Cru Crowder; and Jordan, Lacie, Jarek, Kyra, and Jalie Fitz. She was also the proud great-grandmother of Maverick Fitz (Munchkin) and was eagerly awaiting the arrival of her second great-grandchild, due in December.

She is also survived by her sister, Barbara Diercks of Geary, Oklahoma, who held a special place in her heart, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Cissie’s legacy of faith, love, and devotion to family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
