Linda Faye (Fariss) Lauder went home to be with her Lord and Savior on October 13, 2007 after a long courageous battle with cancer, she was 61 years old.
Linda was born to M.H. and Lola Faye (McCaslin) Farris on August 12, 1946 in Ardmore, Oklahoma. The family made their home in Ardmore for a time before moving to Leedey, Oklahoma. Linda's elementary and high school years were spent in the Leedey Public School, graduating with the Senior Class of 1964. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics from Oklahoma State University and later her Master's Degree in Education from Southwestern Oklahoma State University.
Linda married the love of her life, Sherman "Sherm" G. Lauder, on May 29, 1967 in Leedey, Oklahoma. As newlyweds they made their home in Stillwater, Oklahoma for a short time before moving to Blue Mound, Kansas for three years and then on to Billings, Oklahoma for three years. At that time they returned to Leedey where they have made their home since 1974. Linda and Sherm were blessed with the birth of their two children, Ryan and Stacy.
Linda began her teaching career in Leedey and taught Kindergarten for 15 years. She was honored as Teacher of the Year for the 2002-2003 school years. Linda was a dedicated and loving teacher who had a lasting influence on many of Leedey's children.
Linda was a long-time member of the Leedey First United Methodist Church and accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at the young age of 12 on November 24, 1957. She served the church in many ways; as Children's Choir Director, Recording Secretary, Worship Committee member, and many other ministries. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and served as Treasurer for many years.
Linda was also a member of the Trail Extension Homemakers club and YWS, serving a term as President. She liked to spend her leisure time gardening and tending her flower beds, reading a good book, playing the piano, watching sporting events, and especially cheering on the Cowboys. She also enjoyed traveling with the "senior citizens", Sherm, Billy and Leah, and spending time with the "round table girls" for food, fun, and friendship. Linda and Sherm especially loved being "grandparents" and getting to spend as much time as possible with grandsons, Ethan and Recce.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, M.H. and Lola Faye Fariss and parents-in-law, Frank and Eva Mae Lauder.
Family remaining to cherish her memory are husband, Sherman Lauder of Leedey; son, Ryan Lauder of Piedmont, Oklahoma; daughter, Stacy Villines and husband Nathan of Weatherford, Oklahoma; grandsons, Ethan and Recce Villines of Weatherford, OK; brother Ted Fariss and wife Robetha of Leedey; nephew, Monty Fariss and wife Jana of Norman, Oklahoma and their children Brinn and Chance; niece, Valerie Fariss of Cordell, Oklahoma, other family members and many, many friends.
