Obituary

Lloyd Herschell "Tommy" Peer passed peacefully from this life, with his family at his side, on May 17, 2009 at the age 80. Tom was born in Chaney, Oklahoma on July 14, 1928 to George Victor and Agnes Viola (Mitchell) Peer.

Tom's elementary and high school years were spent in the Gage Public Schools. He graduated with the Class of 1946. He went on to further his education, attending the University of Oklahoma for three and a half years until his father became ill and he returned home to help his folks on the farm.

On December 26, 1949 Tom was united in marriage to Miss Gloria Ann Longhofer. The ceremony was held in the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Shattuck, Oklahoma. Their marriage was soon blessed with the birth of their two daughters, Nickla Ann "Nicki" and Tomi Sue. The family made their home in Shattuck for a few years before moving to Gage in 1955. They remained in Gage until 1998 when they moved to Edmond, Oklahoma.

Tom enjoyed being a farmer his entire life. Following in his mother's footsteps, he went to work for the U.S. Postal Service. He was a rural mail carrier for 30 years, retiring in 1985. In addition to carrying the mail, during the late 50's and early 60's, Tom was Manager for the Gage Airport.

Tom had a real zest for life and enjoyed many things, but most of all his family. He was a devoted husband and a loving and patient father. Tom and Gloria were loyal OU football and basketball fans, and season ticket holders for many years until their health prevented them from attending games. He enjoyed playing Poker and Pitch by "Gage rules", and they loved to travel and were members of the Edmond Seniors Travel Club.

Later in life, Tom accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and attended the Gage Baptist Church. He was a member of the Gage Volunteer Fire Department for a number of years as well as the Masonic Lodge.

He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Agnes Peer; uncles, Rudolph Mitchell, Kenneth Mitchell, and John Peer; and aunts, Maye Glascoe and Evelyn Hall.

Family remaining to cherish his memory are his loving wife and companion of almost 60 years, Gloria; daughters, Nicki Peer-Watt and husband Russell of Edmond, Oklahoma and Tomi Peer-Havran and husband Dave of Yukon, Oklahoma; granddaughter, Hayley Havran Vanderbilt and husband Jordan of Yukon, Oklahoma; sister, Katherine Leloy Banks and husband Jud of Kailua, Hawaii; several nieces and their families, other family members and a lifetime of friends.

The family would like to express their gratitude and gratefulness to Mission Hospice for the loving and attentive care given to their loved one.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in care of Shaw Funeral Home, P.O. Box 276, Vici, OK 73859.
