Lora Blanch (Barton) Bittman, 96-year-old Shattuck, OK resident passed from this life on December 7, 2017, in Shattuck. She was born to Archie and Clara (Eggleston) Barton on January 26, 1921, at their home in the Bishop Community in Ellis County, OK. Lora attended grade school and high school at the Bishop Schools and graduated with the class of 1940. After high school graduation she worked in Shattuck as a nanny.
On November 25, 1941, Lora was united in marriage to Herbert Wayne Bittman at Fargo, OK, and they were married for 72 years. When Herbert was deployed to the European Theater during World War II, she remained on the farm. Her siblings Neva, Moreland, and Jean each spent a year to help manage the farm and care for Herbert and Lora's infant daughter, Willa Dean, while attending school in Shattuck. After Herbert returned home, they were blessed with daughter Sandra and son Dennis.
Lora was baptized into Christ in 1947, at the First Christian Church in Shattuck where she remained an active member for the rest of her life. She loved teaching the children at Vacation Bible School. Her favorite hobbies were gardening, cooking, needlework, reading, and most of all caring for her grandchildren. She loved spending time with her family. She was an excellent hostess who took great pride in her home. Lora and Herbert welcomed family and friends into their home almost daily.
