Obituary

Milton Louis Fariss, 51, lifelong rural resident of Leedey passed away September 16, 2009 in Houston, Texas.

Louis was born to parents Ira Milton and Fincel Virginia Fariss, March 17, 1958, in Elk City. Attending all 12 years of school at Leedey, he was active in FFA, at both local and state levels. At Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Louis majored in Animal Science. He excelled in extracurricular activities: Oklahoma FFA Northwest District Vice President, Oklahoma Junior Angus Association President, Block and Bridle Club President, and Outstanding Block and Bridle Senior. Louis remained a life-long proponent of his passions for leadership development and public speaking. On May 12, 1979, while a student at OSU, Louis married Cynthia Diane Anderson. Louis was blessed with two daughters, Lexy Le and Lin De. The family eventually made their home on a farm northeast of Leedey. Lexy and Lin followed in their father's academic footsteps, and were his life's pride and joy.

In addition to farming, Louis worked with Exxon from 1981-1996, holding various positions in Oklahoma and in offshore operations in the Gulf of Mexico. Louis took a position with (Enbridge) Mid-Coast in 1998. He was Manager of Compression Services for the Gathering and Processing Division at the time of his death. In addition to his professional life, Louis also served on the board of directors for Kiwash Electric Cooperative, Inc. and the Oklahoma Weather Modification Advisory Board.

Louis worshiped with the church of Christ in Leedey throughout his entire life, putting Jesus on in baptism at the age of 16. Louis had an unyielding passion for Christ and the church, who he served in many areas, including: song leader, Sunday school teacher, deacon, and elder.

Louis is survived by his wife of 30 years, Cynthia, of Leedey; by daughter and son-in-law Lexy and Zeke Proctor, D.V.M., of Siloam Springs, Arkansas; by daughter Lin Fariss, Leedey; parents Ira and Fincel Fariss, Leedey; sister and brother-in-law, Dixie and Allen Arnold of Spring, Texas; several nieces and nephews, other family and a host friends.

Louis' life was focused on devotion to God, family, church and community. His strength of character is his legacy.
