Lydia Velma (Baumgartner) Skelton was born September 4, 1921 to Charlie and Hulda (Klein) Baumgartner near Butler, Oklahoma. She departed this life on June 21, 2013, at Elkwood Assisted Living Center in Elk City, Oklahoma, at the age of 91.
Lydia was married to Carl Skelton on January 4, 1941, in Clinton, Oklahoma. To this union was born one child, Lonnie. Lydia and Lonnie lived near Butler, Oklahoma with Lydia's parents while Carl was overseas serving in World War II. When Carl returned, the family made their home in Leedey, Oklahoma, remaining in Leedey for the duration of their lives. Lydia spent her days as a homemaker, raising a garden, and tending to her beloved chickens. Carl and Lydia were members of the First Baptist Church in Leedey where they served faithfully for many years.
Lydia was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, parents, Charlie and Hulda, two brothers, Henry and Edward, three sisters, Rosa, Juanita, and Verna, and daughter-in-law, Mary Kathryn.
She leaves to mourn her son, Lonnie Skelton of Elk City, Oklahoma; two grandsons, Darren Skelton and wife Stacie, and Derrick Skelton; and five grandchildren, Jordan, Chastity, Taylor, Sydney and Chipper; nieces and nephews, Kenneth, Barbara, Ronnie, Wayne, Albert, Kathy and Vickie; only living sister, Lillian Melton and husband Herman of Butler, Oklahoma; and a host of other relatives and friends.
