IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lynn J.
Jordan
October 29, 1948 – August 26, 2021
Lynn J. Jordan of Follett, Texas passed away on August 26,2021 in Shattuck, Oklahoma at the age of 72 years.
Lynn the son of Warren W. and Amy Beth (Waugh) of Buffalo, Oklahoma was born on October 29, 1948 in Shattuck, Oklahoma. He was raised in the Willard community northwest of Buffalo with his four brothers Harold, Laurence, Arlan and James. There Lynn had his first job as a custom cutter, during the summer, with his dad. Lynn traveled from Oklahoma to Nebraska as a "wheatie" and always had stories to tell about those days. He said the best bed he ever slept on was in the back of a wheat truck loaded with wheat.
He graduated from Buffalo High School in 1966 and attended Oklahoma State University where he obtained a BS Degree in Animal Science. Lynn and Waynetta (Bates) Jordan were married August 22,1969 and had son Justin and daughter Lynsia.
Lynn played an active role in his kids activities and volunteered to help whenever he could. He was involved as a Methodist Youth Sponsor, 4-H and FFA volunteer and was a member of the Follett School Board. He enjoyed watching Justin play football and was known to clear the stands, in front of where he sat in the bleachers, because of his loud booming voice on the sidelines. He traveled with Lynsia to many Texas FFA events over the years and liked telling people how she was a State FFA Officer for Texas just like he was a State FFA officer for Oklahoma. He enjoyed seeing his kids succeed.
Lynn worked in the livestock industry all his life in Oklahoma, Colorado and Texas. He was the resident "vet" on call for many people. He was knowledgeable about every species of animal you asked him about. However, his real animal passion was horses. He loved riding and raising horses. Lynn also raced his own horses in various places, including his favorite place Raton, New Mexico.
Lynn was an all around advocate for agriculture. He held many jobs in the agricultural industry including feedlot manager/owner, hog farm manager and NAU contract crop adjuster. Lynn enjoyed meeting with farmers and ranchers and knew people from any area you mentioned. He always managed to make new friends everywhere he went and was very persistent in striking up conversations with new and old ones. In recent years, Lynn loved raising cattle at the family (Bates) farm near where he grew up. If you rode with him in the pasture, he shared the history of each cow or calf and what their genetic background was. He got a special kick out of raising show cattle. This past year he had a pen of cattle that he sold to a young man in Canyon, Texas that was named Grand Champion at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
When Lynn had some free time, he could always be found watching any sport the OSU Cowboys and Cowgirls were playing. If the TV wasn't on a college game, it was on a cattle auction or a rodeo.
Lynn also took great pride in telling everyone about his grandkids Hagan, Payton, Tanner and Mercedes. He looked forward to spoiling his new great grandson, Chett. He was known as POPO to them and loved watching them participate in their many activities. Lynn got a huge kick out of taking the grandkids out to eat, whenever he could. Steak dinners, with POPO, were a much anticipated event. He was also known to sit for hours practicing Spelling Bee words and even helped raise quail in his garage for a state science fair project.
Lynn is survived by his wife Waynetta. Brothers Harold Jordan and wife Carolyn of Moore, Oklahoma; Laurence and Arlan Jordan of Buffalo; James Jordan and wife Tammy of Ness City, Kansas; Son Justin Jordan and wife Shelly of Buffalo; Daughter Lynsia Jordan-Sprouse and husband Derek of Slapout, Oklahoma.
