Obituary

Marilyn Fern Brown, born on September 21, 1933, in Larned, Kansas, to proud parents Harry and Lottie Sykes Watts. Marilyn peacefully passed away in Elk City, Oklahoma on January 12th, 2024. She lived a life filled with love, family, and meaningful and lasting friendships in her community.

Marilyn's journey began in Hugoton, Kansas where she attended Hugoton Elementary and High School, graduating in 1951. At the age of 12, she was baptized in the Christian Church in Hugoton, exhibiting her belief and faith early on. Her commitment to her beliefs continued throughout her life.

On March 25th, 1951, Marilyn embarked on a lifelong journey with her beloved husband, DeWayne Mitchell Brown, whom she married in Clayton, New Mexico. Their union was blessed with three daughters, Yolanda Rhaleen, Denise Renee, and Lisa Delyn.

The couple made a home in various places, including Kansas City, Missouri, San Diego, California, and Hugoton, Kansas and Weatherford, Oklahoma before settling in Vici, Oklahoma, where they planted their roots. During DeWayne's pursuit of his pharmacy career, Marilyn followed him to Dimmitt and White Deer, Texas, Texhoma and Shattuck, Oklahoma, before making Vici their permanent home.

Marilyn was not only a devoted wife and mother but also a talented florist. Her passion led her to establish the Vici Flower Shop, where she created beautiful arrangements that brought joy to many. She retired from the floral business in 1995, leaving a legacy of creativity and beauty in her community.

Her commitment to her faith extended to the Vici First Christian Church, where Marilyn and DeWayne were active members. Marilyn served in the Ladies Auxiliary, Vici Missionary Society, and the Angel Loft, embodying the true spirit of service.

Always ready for an adventure, Marilyn eagerly joined DeWayne on countless journeys, ensuring her purse was the first thing she grabbed. Her warm and loving spirit touched the lives of her family, friends, and all who were fortunate to know her.

Marilyn Fern Brown is preceded in death by husband DeWayne of 72 years, her father, Harry Everett Watts, mother, Lottie Watts, grandmother, Hattie Lee Sykes, uncle, Vestal Dale Sykes, and aunt, Glenn King.
