Mark Andrew
Brown
August 28, 1952 – November 29, 2025
A family led memorial service will be held in the evening hours of December 3, 2025 at New Covenant Church in Woodward, OK.
Mark Brown, 73, of Woodward, Oklahoma, passed peacefully from this life on November 29, 2025, surrounded by his loving family in his home. Mark was born on August 28, 1952, in Hutchinson, Kansas to Harold and Beverly Brown. He grew up in Nickerson, Kansas, where he spent his childhood and young adulthood, graduating from Nickerson High School in 1970. He briefly attended Kansas State University before beginning the life that God had planned for him.
On September 19, 1975, Mark married the love of his life, Edna "Eddie" Brown, in Hutchinson. Mark said that he fell in love with her the very first time he saw her. Together they welcomed their daughter, Patsy Lorraine, and built a life full of love, faith, and purpose. They adopted their grandchildren after their daughter's passing and fostered around 19 children. Mark and Eddie lived in Hutchinson, then returned to Nickerson for a time.
Mark's father owned a small oil company. So, after earning his way up the ladder, he became a vice president. He moved to Oklahoma with his wife 48 years ago to continue working in the oil field for Triad Drilling, becoming a tool pusher. Even in that rough, demanding environment, he brought the light of Christ with him. He was never hesitant to ask someone if they knew the Lord. Many came to salvation because Mark had the courage and compassion to ask the question that mattered most. He didn't simply read the Bible—he studied it, lived it, and knew the Word deeply. His greatest desire on this Earth was for his family to be saved and to live for Christ.
After a car accident, Mark was left unable to return to the oilfield. He went to the Vo-tech, where he designed and taught a computer business program. After retiring, he went on to author the book Mason Bricklin. It's a happy funny book, just like him.
Mark believed his mission on Earth was to pray for people by name and share the Gospel. He often said that "this Earth is Kindergarten for Heaven," and that you read your Bible—not to get to Heaven, but to better learn when you get there. He lived these truths every day. A joyful man, he was one of the happiest people you could ever meet. He was always ready to answer questions asked about the Bible, how to apply it here on Earth. The most important thing to Mark was that all his family would get saved and live for Christ. Mark said it was a joy to spread the gospel, and he was a "happy" man. He said that a man that can be happy at work and home was a blessed man, and he was blessed. He enjoyed being with family and friends and spreading the word to others. He would say, "Stop looking behind and star looking ahead, you'll find life gets easier."
Mark was baptized 49 years ago in the Arkansas River and was a faithful member of New Covenant Church in Woodward since 1986, where he also served as a Sunday School teacher. During the lean years when there were no services available for those in need, he helped establish the homeless shelter known as The Jesus Connection. Even in his later years, he continued reading 10 to 12 chapters of Scripture a day and praying for hours each morning.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Beverly Brown; his beloved daughter, Patsy Lorraine Brown; his brother, Larry Brown; his sister, Janet Brown; and his brother-in-law, Bill Proffitt.
Mark is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Eddie Brown of the home; grandsons, Dallas, Dalton, and William Brown; nine great-grandchildren; brother Dale Brown and wife Deonna of Nickerson, KS; sister, Susan Adkins of Topeka, KS; sister, Brenda Brown of Hutchinson, KS; brother, Todd Brown and wife Kristie of Salina, KS; sister, Terri Proffitt of Hutchinson, KS; sister, Judy Niehoff of Salina, KS; sister, Debra Palmer of Nickerson, KS; sister, Annabel Stewart of Hutchinson, KS; sister, Lori Olson and husband Kevin of New Boston, TX; sister-in-law, Doris Yoder and husband Don of Burrton, KS; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and a host of loved ones and dear friends.
Mark lived a life of faith, joy, and purpose. His legacy of prayer, compassion, and unwavering belief in God will continue to shine through everyone who knew him. He finished his race well, and his family and friends rejoice knowing he is finally home with his Savior.
