In 1931 the family moved to Camargo, Oklahoma.

Marvin's entire grade school and high school years were spent in the Camargo School. He was a member of the graduating Class of 1948. Marvin was baptized as a young boy and his church home was the First Christian Church in Camargo.

Marvin worked for a short time for MK&T Railroad as a trackman before he entered the Navy in 1952 at the rank of Seaman Recruit. Marvin served on eight different ships as well as several naval stations throughout his enlistment. During his twenty-six year career he proudly served his country in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam for which he was awarded several medals.
