IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Maurice Arlan
Steers
January 6, 1942 – April 24, 2025
Loving husband, father, grandad, son, and friend, Maurice Arlan Steers was born on January 6, 1942, to Maurice Carl and Vurl Emma (Carter) Steers and stepped into Heaven on April 24, 2025, in Oklahoma City, OK surrounded by his family.
He spent his entire life in Taloga working on the family farm, where he developed a love for the land and livestock. Summers were spent working alongside his father, Maurice, and his nephew, Greg Steers, who helped with the farming. Arlan considered Greg more of a little brother than nephew and often spoke of the great times they had together.
Arlan graduated from Taloga School in 1960 and furthered his education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University, graduating in 1964. He began his teaching and coaching career at Sharon and later at Vici, Taloga, and Oakwood. He returned to Taloga and coached the boys' basketball team to a State Championship in 1998. To this day, they love, respect and still call Arlan "Coach" and he had the same love and respect for them. He was the calm, sincere voice in the storm. He was the teacher, coach, and mentor not only to his family but for so many others in the years past and present. He spent several years in banking and became President of the Dewey County State Bank.
During these years, his children Tracy and Shawn were born. He married Kathy Berry, and Ryan was born into this union. In 2012, he married Ellen Hunter, and with that marriage, he welcomed Karie and Cody to the family.
A man of honesty and integrity, Arlan was a good steward of the land, always willing to help a friend or neighbor. In later years he enjoyed traveling and kept busy taking care of his cattle. He found great joy in attending grandchildren's events and never lost the joy he found in family and friends, most importantly his lifelong devotion to Jesus Christ.
Arlan was preceded in death by his parents, sister Patsy, brother Carter, wife Kathy Steers, parents-in-law Kenneth and Dorothy Hunter, and sisters-in-law Nola Hunter and Lois Jordan.
His love and legacy live on through his beloved wife Ellen, children Tracy and Kyle Flinton, Shawn Steers, Ryan Steers, Karie and Brian Moorehead, and Cody Crabtree. Sisters and brothers-in-law Joann Steers, Jan Maitland, Kathleen Hunter, Barbara and Gary Hook, Kenny and Meshell Hunter, and Bill Hunter. Grandchildren Drake Steers, Karsten and Kale Flinton, Austen and Diamond Moorehead, Ashlyn Moorehead, Randon, Radley, and Jocelyn Vermillion. One great granddaughter Kinsley Moorehead. Nieces, nephews, friends, and lifelong friend Jerald Hamar and family.
Arlan lived life well and it was a well-lived life. His memory will live on and be cherished for many years to come. He is enjoying the greatest gift of eternal life with Jesus Christ.
