Obituary

Maxine Pearl (Ferguson) Gore, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend gained her angel wings on February 10, 2021, at the age of 77 years, 11 months, and 22 days. She began her earthly journey on February 19, 1943, at Taloga, Oklahoma, one of four children born to Vernon William and Susie (Berry) Ferguson. She grew up on the family farm and in the Taloga community, graduating from Taloga High School in 1961.

Maxine was united in marriage at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Seiling to the love of her life, Kenneth Leon Gore, on June 30, 1961. After this union, the young couple moved to Pauls Valley and Norman for a brief period. Shortly thereafter they relocated to Enid, where they resided for thirteen years. While in Enid Maxine and Kenny became proud parents to Tina, Kevin, and Tonya. She was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of America. In 1976 the family of five moved back to Taloga to take over her family's farm, and she and Kenny remained there ever since. The birth of their fourth child, Kirk, finally made their family complete. Raising her children was the one job that brought Maxine the most joy.

Maxine was many things. She was Kenny's helper, a loyal supporter of her children and all their activities, as well as being a member of the Taloga Federated Club. She was also a Religious Education teacher and a faithful member of the St. Thomas Catholic Church. For over 25 years, Maxine worked at the Dewey County election board and served as the postmaster at Putnam and Oakwood, retiring from the post office in 2004. Maxine had numerous hobbies and special interests. She loved reading (John Grisham books were her favorite) traveling, walking, playing cards, cheering for the Sooners, volunteering at the Taloga Sr. Citizen's Center, and attending family sporting events. Maxine lived a full life filled with family, friends, and faith. Those who were blessed to know her would say she was kind, compassionate, and caring. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Maxine is preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Susie Ferguson; sister, Kathleen; grandparents, Oliver and Lillian Berry and John and Cora Ferguson. Memories of happy times will be cherished by her beloved husband, Kenny Gore of the home in Taloga; children, Tina Gilchrist and husband Brad of Woodward; Kevin Gore and wife Kris of Woodward; Tonya Gosnell and husband Greg of Blanchard; and Kirk Gore and wife Ashlee of Enid. Ten grandchildren: Cody Gilchrist and wife Dandi of Weatherford; Trey Gilchrist and wife Megan of Seiling; Gabe, Grace E., Kennedy, Cooper, Izabella, twins Ezra and Zane, Dezi; and two great-grandchildren Dutton and Lane. Maxine is also survived by her sister, Mary Peckham and husband Ancel of Colorado Springs, CO; her brother, Ralph Ferguson and wife Sue of Baltimore, MD; and other relatives, extended family, and life-long friends.
