Merrylou (Endersby) Pummel was born on January 23, 1930 to Marion and Wilda (Walling) Endersby in Woodward, OK. She attended grade school at Pleasant Valley in rural Woodward County before graduating from Woodward High School. She attended college at Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva. On July 2, 1948 at the Christian Church in Coldwater, Kansas, Merrylou married the love of her life, Bill Pummel. This union was blessed with two daughters, Belinda "Benny" and Linda Carol. She raised her family in Sharon. Merrylou lived in Woodward, Sharon, Augusta, KS, Shattuck and finally, Weatherford, OK at the time of her death.
Merrylou was a postmaster for 36 years. She loved her work and her coworkers. She was the first lady to help start swimming lessons at the Red Cross in Woodward. She began by hauling kids to lessons in the back of her pick up from Sharon. As the attendees increased, she was able to get a bus for everyone. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, Business and Professional Women, Selective Service Board, Oklahoma Postmasters Association and National Postmasters Association. She volunteered for years with the hospital auxiliary and the Woodward County Election Board. Merrylou was baptized at a young age in the Christian Church. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and attended faithfully until she was no longer able. Merrylou cherished her family and loved them dearly, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Merrylou passed from this life on December 31, 2018 in Weatherford, OK. Preceding her in death were her husband, Bill Pummel; her parents, Marion and Wilda Endersby; a brother, Robert Endersby; a sister, Coralie VonSchriltz; a grandson, Denton Kauk; a grandson, Joey Pugh and a granddaughter, Bobbie Jo Pugh. Surviving Merrylou are her daughter, Benny and husband Jim Pugh of Weatherford, OK; daughter Linda and husband Danny Kauk of Amarillo, TX; brother Bud Endersby of Houston, TX; sister Marie Kummell Steiger of Enid, OK; grandson Bill J. Pugh of San Juan, Puerto Rico; granddaughter Lisa and husband Aaron Sims of Woodward; granddaughter Carrie and husband Joel Cram of Anna, TX; grandson Cash Pugh of Thomas, OK; 3 great grandchildren, Seth Sims, Anna Sims and Joel Cram; nieces, nephews and a host of friends and extended family.
Memorial donations may be made to North Persimmon Cemetery in care of Shaw Funeral Home.
