Mervin Keith
Bowman
July 7, 1942 – December 3, 2022
Mervin Keith Bowman, son of William Roy and Eva Annis (Shaw) Bowman was born in Vici, OK. on July 7, 1942. He passed from this life at the age of 80 in Guthrie, OK. on December 3, 2022. Mervin grew up on the family farm in the Harmon community and his school years were spent in the Arnett Public Schools. Following high school Mervin worked in Texas for RH Fulton Pipeline. He lived in Dodge City, KS. for a time working at Ideal Laundry and later managed a furniture store in Garden City, KS. In 1964 he was drafted to serve his country in the U.S. Army and received his honorable discharge in 1966 at Ft. Hood, TX. He returned to make his home in Vici, OK. where he worked his way up to a drilling superintendent in the oilfield and was a town of Vici employee. In 1968 Mervin was united in marriage to Elizabeth Miller at the Vici Baptist Church. Three children, Michael Keith, Mark Leon and Katrina Lyn blessed their union. For eighteen years Mervin was a mechanic at his brother Gerald's business, Bowman's Garage in Mooreland, OK. He enjoyed commuting to Mooreland when the weather permitted on his bicycle. During this time, he served six and a half years on the Vici Town Board including two years as the Mayor of Vici. His final ten years of employment was spent at Goodman Automotive in Vici from which he retired in 2003. He served as the American Legion Post 76 Commander for many years and marking the graves of veterans for Memorial Day was very important to him. He was a member of the Vici Lions Club and he enjoyed the fellowship of attending the Vici Baptist Church and the Vici Nazarene Church. His hobbies included photography, playing his guitar, solving word search puzzles, watching the OSU Cowboys and tinkering in the garage. He had a great passion for two wheeled vehicles, namely his motorcycle and bicycle. He received numerous awards for various bicycle races and rides and he rode with a group of cyclists to Red River, New Mexico and to Mt. Rushmore in South Dakota. His favorite trip was FreeWheel Oklahoma, a ride across the state every June covering nearly eighty miles a day. Throughout his life Mervin believed in hard work. He was proud that his oldest grandsons followed in his automotive footsteps by opening Bowman's Tire Service. He was a peaceful man with a great love for his family and his community and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Mervin is preceded in death by his parents William and Eva Bowman, his son Michael Keith Bowman and his siblings; brothers Glen Bowman, Wilmer Bowman, Orlin Bowman, Vernon Bowman and Gerald Bowman and his sisters Francis Valescu, Claretta Shaw, Eva Seely, Verla Watts, Dorene Bowman and Hazel McAlary. The mother of his children, Beth Blackwell and other loved ones.
His memory will be forever cherished by his children, Mark Leon Bowman and his wife Tina of Weatherford, OK. and Katrina Lyn White and her husband Joe Robert White II of Guthrie, OK. Five special grandchildren, Tyler Bowman of Weatherford, OK., Michael Bowman Jr. and wife Yesenia of Mustang, OK., Genevieve White, Austin White and Isabella White of Guthrie, OK., Four great grandchildren, Cashlie, Channing, Case'Lynn and Creed Bowman. Numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
