Mary "Mollie" Opal (Teer) Shoopman, 92 year old resident of Oklahoma City, OK, passed from this life on February 13, 2016 in her home in Oklahoma City. Mollie was born September 6, 1923 in Atoka County, Oklahoma to Isaac M. and Elsie (Hicks) Teer. Mollie was raised on the family farm and lost her father at the age of five. She and her five siblings were tasked with working on the farm and taking other paying jobs to help out the family.
Mollie grew up as neighbors with the love of her life J.D. Shoopman and on August 16, 1942 the two were united in marriage in Dewey County, Oklahoma. To this union two daughters were born LaVonne and Vada. Shortly after their marriage, J.D. left to serve in WWII and Mollie moved to Oklahoma City and became a "Rosie the Riveter" at Tinker AFB where she worked assembling aircraft. When J.D. returned from the war they made their home in Southard, OK, and later in Taloga, OK where they farmed for several years. They moved back to Oklahoma City in the mid-1950s.
Mollie worked as a cashier at Nichols Hill Elementary School while her children were young. Mollie always regretted having to drop out of school at the eighth grade. She had a strong desire for education and in the mid-1960s she enrolled in Business College. After earning her Business Degree she went to work for the Oklahoma State Health Department as an Administrative Assistant for many years until she retired in 1985.
Mollie was baptized at the age of 14 in Dewey County, and was a member of Classen Boulevard Baptist Church. Mollie enjoyed reading and sewing. She was an excellent seamstress and made clothes for herself and her family, including making her oldest grandchild's prom dress. She also loved to make drapery for her home and even learned to upholster furniture. Mollie loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and when the first great-grandchild was born she became "Gee Gee". Mollie loved her family and was very generous to them; she always made sure her family was never lacking for anything. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Mollie is preceded in death by her husband J.D. Shoopman; parents Isaac and Elsie Teer; brothers Lewis Teer, Arthur (Shorty) Teer, Nelson (Andy) Teer; sisters Thelma Wells and Oleane Frazier; great-grandchild Sierra Saunders, son-in-law Dean Saunders and grandson-in-law Russell Reeves.
She is survived by her daughters LaVonne Kiser of Oklahoma City, OK and Vada Holstein and husband Kelly of Yukon, OK; grandchildren Tawney Bass, Kent Saunders, Christy Reeves, Barbara Saunders, and Lanetta Saunders; great-grandchildren Brandy Reeves, Stacy Renee Pack, Deanna Pack, Venice Graves, Brook Pack, Trinity Thomas; great great-granchild Ledger Pack; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
