Monte Alan Puffinbarger

Monte Alan Puffinbarger passed from this life on June 23, 2026, at his home in Camargo, Oklahoma, at the age of 69 years, 5 months, and 14 days.

Monte was born on January 9, 1957, in Cherokee, Oklahoma, to Fay Carol Puffinbarger and Shirley Jean (Ackerman) Puffinbarger. Before he began grade school, Monte moved with his family to Camargo, Oklahoma, where he would spend the remainder of his life.

Monte attended school in Camargo through the eighth grade before enrolling at Leedey High School. During his high school years, he excelled both athletically and competitively. He was a member of the Leedey High School baseball team that captured the Oklahoma State Championship in 1975 and qualified to compete in the Oklahoma High School State Rodeo in bareback riding. Monte graduated with the Leedey High School Class of 1975.

Following graduation, Monte entered the workforce and built a career marked by hard work and dedication. He spent much of his working life as a pumper in the oilfield and also worked in construction and ranching. His final occupation was in the cement industry.

Monte was blessed with three children: Rusty, Jessie, and Zane. His family was a source of great pride and joy throughout his life.

When he wasn't working, Monte loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and fishing whatever was in season, especially quail hunting alongside his beloved bird dogs and pursuing whitetail deer. He was also a dedicated member of the Camargo Fire Department, serving his community with pride.

In 2018, Monte gave his life to Christ and became a faithful attendee of the First Christian Church of Camargo. His faith became an important part of his life. Monte especially loved following the activities and sporting events of his grandchildren and never missed an opportunity to talk about them with family and friends.

Monte was preceded in death by his father, Fay Puffinbarger; his mother, Shirley (Ackerman) Airington; and his niece, Jacee Alexander.

He is survived by his son, Rusty Puffinbarger and wife, Deedra, of Leedey, Oklahoma; his daughter, Jessie Young and husband, Morgan, of Olympia, Washington; his son, Zane Puffinbarger of Vici, Oklahoma; his grandchildren, Jack Puffinbarger of Weatherford, Oklahoma, Luke Puffinbarger and Blake Puffinbarger, both of Leedey, Oklahoma, and Ellis Young and Asa Young, both of Olympia, Washington; his sisters, Teresa Smith and husband, Dan, of Camargo, Oklahoma, and Karen Kuper of Vici, Oklahoma; his aunt, Cleo Puffinbarger of Enid, Oklahoma; four nieces; three nephews; ten great-nieces; ten great-nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

A graveside service will be conducted at the Byron-Amorita Cemetery near Byron, Oklahoma, on Friday, June 26, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. Services are under the direction of Shaw Funeral Home of Vici, Oklahoma.
