IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Monte Lee
Schamburg
March 4, 1961 – July 12, 2025
Monte Lee Schamburg, son of Loyd "Skeet" and Arlene (Forrest) Schamburg, began his life's adventure on March 4, 1961, in Vici, Oklahoma, and completed his journey on July 12, 2025, at the age of 64.
Monte spent his childhood on the family farm north of Vici, alongside his brother Fred and sister Sherri. Life on the farm taught him the value of hard work and the joy of simple pleasures—whether it was working the land, playing with his siblings, or attending the Vici First Christian Church, where he was baptized at the age of 16. His early years were filled with both responsibility and laughter.
He attended Vici Public Schools, where he played both basketball and baseball and graduated with the Class of 1979. Monte continued his education at Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Oklahoma, before moving to Amarillo, Texas, where he was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad for thirteen years. His career path eventually led him into commercial construction, a field that had him relocating several times through Illinois, Indiana, then Ohio. During this time in Monte's life he embraced the role of fatherhood when he gained a son, Austin. Wanting to raise his son near their family they moved back to Oklahoma settling in Weatherford, Oklahoma, in 2008. In 2015, Monte returned to his roots in Vici, where he enjoyed time on the family farm, trading, tinkering in his garage, and being a good neighbor and friend to many.
Known for his mischievous grin and friendly wave, Monte never met a stranger. He had a knack for conversation, a readiness to lend a hand, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life.
Monte is survived by his son, Austin Schamburg and wife Mary of Hinton, OK; three grandchildren; Jackson, Olivia and Lucas; his sister, Sherri Mayes and husband Kelly; his brother, Fred Schamburg and wife Kelly—all of Weatherford, OK. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews: Stacey Reed and husband Jon, Corey Yarrow and husband Josh, Logan Schamburg and wife Jacqueline, Grant Schamburg and wife Darby; six great-nieces, three great-nephews; three aunts, five uncles, numerous cousins, other relatives, and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Skeet and Arlene Schamburg; a great nephew, Luke Yarrow; and other cherished loved ones.
