Monty Jay Martin, 61-year-old resident of Gage, OK, passed from this life on January 17, 2021 in Denver, CO.  Monty was born January 3, 1960 to Norma Lee Hill. He was raised by his mother and grandmother in Woodward, OK.  He attended Woodward schools and graduated with the class of 1978.

Monty met Jolene Canfield in 1989 and was with her for 23 years. During that time he accepted and raised her daughter, Crystal, as his own. In 2012 Monty met his wife, Stacey Johnston. After being together for 6 years, in 2018 they got married in Las Vegas.

Monty built custom homes for Bill Yeager with his long-time friend, Frank Patterson from 1976-1980.  In 1980 Monty and Frank started their own construction company, P&M Construction.  In April 1985 Monty joined the Woodward Police Department.  He served for 29 years and retired January 2014. During that time he also worked Security at the Social Security Administration Office in Woodward, from 2001 to 2008. After retiring from the Woodward Police Department, Monty served as the undersheriff in the Ellis County Sheriff Department from 2015 until his passing.  Serving as a law enforcement officer for 36 years. He was a very well known, liked and respected man. Monty never complained and loved his job. During his time in serving his community he made an impact on many, many lives. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) and the Five State Peace Officer's Association. Monty loved hunting, fishing and watching OU football. He also loved checking and feeding his cattle with his wife, Stacey. He was a very proud Papaw and loved his family very much. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Monty is preceded in death by his mother Norma Lee Hill, grandmother Wilma Davis Martin, and Uncle Jay Martin.

He is survived by his wife Stacey Martin of the home and her son Cameron; daughter Crystal Hyatt and fiancé Johnny Logan of Woodward, OK; stepchildren Matthew Goers and wife Monica of Omaha, Nebraska, Chris Johnston and wife Torrie of Longton, KS, Alec Johnston of Woodward, OK, T.J. Martin and family of Elk City, OK, and Kristen Crawford and family of Waynoka, OK; grandkids Chace Winslow, Adler Logan, Tinsley and Kreason Johnston, Genevieve and Lincoln Goers; and an abundance of friends, some of whom he considered family.
