IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Nancy Lou
Salisbury
January 31, 1937 – August 31, 2022
Nancy Lou Bennett Salisbury was born in Stratford, Texas on January 31, 1937, to Harold and Penny Pronger Bennett. She attended school in Stratford. On August 1, 1953 she married William Russell (Bill) Salisbury, a handsome young man from Vici, Oklahoma who had been to WWII and graduated from Oklahoma A&M. He bought the feed store from her father while Nancy finished high school and a year later they moved to Vici where Nancy would call home the rest of her life.
To the union were born Ken, Phil, John and Lori. While Bill taught school and farmed, Nancy helped by driving the tractor or wheat truck and worked in Woodward sewing for Trego's Western Wear. Later when she and Bill became active in the American Ag Movement in the 1970s, she began a career as a writer and photographer. She worked as a reporter for a Woodward newspaper and later as a freelance travel writer for newspapers and magazines where she chronicled and photographed her travels throughout the United States and many other countries. She also loved writing stories about people in her community. She entered photographs in competition at the Oklahoma Professional Photographers Association and enjoyed meeting friends at the annual conference.
Nancy was active in the Vici United Methodist Church. She and Bill enjoyed playing cards and going to dances. They made time for fun and always seemed younger than their years. Nancy loved riding horses and golfing. She often took her kids and later grandkids to the creek, river or swimming pool. With her big camera around her neck, she photographed grandchildren's ballgames, track meets and rodeos.
Nancy passed from this life on August 31, 2022. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents. She is survived by her siblings Millie Hacker, Pam Carson and husband Jay, and Hal Bennett and wife Jeannie. Sister-in-law Dixie Salisbury, brother-in-law Hop Salisbury, brother-in-law Ceford Castor and a host of other relatives.
She is survived by her children Ken and Terri Salisbury, Phil and Kellie Salisbury, John and Denise Salisbury, all of Vici, and Lori and Mark Messenger of Woodward.
