Ila Naoma (Gastineau) Squires, 91 year old longtime resident of Taloga, passed from this life June 11, 2016 in Norman, OK. Naoma was born September 22, 1924 to Irene and Raymond Gastineau in Lenora, OK. Naoma went to Taloga Public School and graduated with the class of 1941.

On August 1, 1942 Naoma married her high school sweetheart, Elsworth Squires at the Methodist Parsonage in Taloga, OK. They were blessed with one daughter, Iola. They lived on their farm near Lenora for 3 years until a fire destroyed their home. They then moved to Oklahoma City where Naoma attended cosmetology school. After receiving her degree, they returned to Taloga where she worked as a beautician out of her home salon for 10 years while Elsworth was engaged in farming. In 1957 they moved to Wichita where Elsworth was employed by Frontier Chemical Company. After 4 years in Wichita they moved to the Collier Ranch Southeast of Taloga to return to their farming roots. Elsworth built their home in Taloga in 1971 according to house plans Naoma designed where they lived the remainder of their lives.
Naoma was known by many for her cooking abilities especially by local farmers. She always brought an entire meal to the field in the trunk of her car complete with a refreshing wet towel and extra plates for anyone who needed a meal.
Naoma was baptized at an early age and remained a member of the Methodist Church. She was one of the original members of the Ladies Pitch Club in Taloga. Naoma loved spending time with family and always looked forward to attending all their events. Her creative artistic abilities were displayed in afghans she crocheted for each family member, ceramic pieces, flower arrangements, paintings, and other crafts she beautifully created. She shared her cheerful optimistic personality with everyone she met and she almost always found a reason to smile. She and Elsworth loved traveling to visit out of state relatives as well as traveling to Hawaii on a trip won by Naoma whose luck always seemed to be in her favor.

Naoma is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Elsworth Squires, brother Lyndel Gastineau, granddaughter Vicky Lynch and parents Raymond & Irene Gastineau.

She is survived by her daughter, Iola Logan of Edmond; grandchildren, Kellie Purdy of Tonkawa, OK and Alan Logan & Thad Burr of Oklahoma City, OK; grandson-in-law Danny Lynch of Seiling, OK; great-grandchildren Brandon & Abbie Purdy of Tonkawa, OK and Justin Lynch of Sapulpa, OK; many nieces, nephews, other family members, lifelong friends Ruth Cotton of Oklahoma City, OK and Lois Ruble of Taloga, OK and a host of friends.
