Arnold Neil Sweet, son of Arnold and Anna Mae (Schamburg) Sweet, began his adventure of life on October 2, 1947 in Mooreland, OK. At the age of 74, he passed from this life on July 5, 2022 surrounded by the family that he laughed with, lived for and loved.
When he was a youngster, his family lived near Bouse Junction and a short time in Vici, OK. before moving to Enid, OK. With older sister, Saundra, and younger brother, Gary, he attended Enid Public schools and graduated with the Class of 1965. Neil then furthered his education at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, OK. He attended OSU on a scholarship program for the OSU Riflery team where he later met the love of his life, Patty Coulter.
Neil was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Coulter on March 24, 1969 in Enid, OK. Their adventure, spanning 53 years, was blessed with a son, Jay Neil and a daughter, Trisha Ann. Stillwater remained home until September 9, 1970 when Neil was drafted into the U.S. Army. This new adventure took Neil and his family to reside at Ft. Richardson in Anchorage, AK. where he served as a Personnel Records Specialist. He attained the rank of Specialist 5 th Class before his honorable discharge at Fort Lewis Washington on March 13, 1972. Neil and Patty returned home to Mutual, OK where they lived and worked on the family farm before building and moving into their home on the hill, overlooking their many life's accomplishments.
Neil was a self-employed rancher and made it a personal goal to improve the family homesteads on which he was raised. For many years he was a familiar face and made numerous friends at livestock auctions where he bought, sold and traded horses. He enjoyed horseback riding with his kids and often entered team ropings with Jay as his roping partner. He went above and beyond to provide his kids with the best horses, tack, and opportunities to compete in rodeos. Many hours were spent traveling to and from rodeos regardless of his schedule. He rarely passed up a chance to go fishing, hunting, or to participate in long distance shooting sports. Time spent with his family made many lasting memories and spoiling his grandchildren and great grands was a highlight of any day. It was important that he provide the same opportunities for his grandkids that he had provided for his own kids. His sly smile will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
Neil is preceded in death by his parents Anna Mae and Arnold Sweet, his sister Saundra Lauppe, his grandparents Fred and Orpha Schamburg and Ralph and Ivy Sweet and other loved ones.
His memory will be cherished by his wife, Patty Sweet of Vici, OK., his children Jay Sweet and wife Trisia Rose of Wasilla, AK. and Trisha Salisbury of Vici, OK. His granddaughters, Jessie Smith and her husband Ben of Seiling, OK., Emilie Jones and her husband Caleb of Vici, OK., Paden House and her husband Taylor of Stillwater, OK., and two great grandchildren, Zeph Larkey and Owen Smith. His brother Gary Sweet and his wife Teresa of Woodward, OK., a nephew Jacob Sweet and his wife and son Julia and Isaiah of Cresent, OK, numerous cousins, other relatives and a host of friends that shared his life.
