Nellie Irene Randall was born March 26, 1918 in Vici, Oklahoma to Virgil and Ines
(Davis) Smith. Irene passed away January 13, 2009 in her home, east of Vici, at the age of 90 years, 10 months, and 13 days. She attended school and graduated from Vici High School with the class of 1937. In 2008, she received an award from the Vici Alumni Association for having at least one great-grandchild in all except three grades of Vici Schools.
She was the next to the oldest child in her family of 8 girls and 4 boys. She worked in various homes, in the Vici community to help support and care for her younger brothers and sisters. She would tell of stories about walking miles to school in the snow, only part of the time did they have a horse to ride.
She was baptized in the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn as a teenager. She served her Lord continuously and kept the faith until the end.
On March 10, 1941, she married Harvey Randall at the home of Bro. Rollie Cunningham, east of Vici. They were blessed with five children, Deanna, Inez, Virgie, Cecil, and Donnie. After Harvey passed away in 1980, she spent many morning hours quilting at the Vici Senior Center and helping deliver meals. In the afternoon, she would go home to piece quilts or quilt for herself. She gave quilts each year to every graduating high school senior having ties to the Church. She hand quilted for many years, when age no longer allowed her to hand quilt, she still pieced and tied them. She always looked forward to having the great-grandchildren come by and help her tie the quilts. She continued to piece quilts after she lost her eye sight, until arthritis stopped her from sewing.
She was a very loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and dearly loved and helped care for the Brethren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Harvey; son, Cecil; two sons-in-law, Garvin Morris and Leland McLain; three sisters, Lorene Upchurch, Etha Newton, and Evelyn Poulson; and three brothers, Willis Smith, Vernard Smith, and an infant baby Smith.
