Norvie Dord Fitz was born in Higgins, Texas on July 7, 1935, to Dale Fitz and Flossie Kearns Fitz. He was the oldest of their five children. Norvie's first home was on a farm southeast of Higgins, Texas. At 18 months of age, his family moved back to northwest Oklahoma where they bought a farm on Commission Creek in the Bishop Community. Norvie grew up there, helping on the family farm raising hay and grain, milking cows by hand, pulling broom corn, picking cotton, fixing fence and repairing water gaps every time it came a rain. He graduated from Bishop School in 1954 and continued his education, attending the Muskogee Mechanic School.
Norvie had a wide range of work experience. He was a seismograph operator and also worked in the oilfield for a year and a half. From July 15, 1957 until July 16, 1959, Norvie served in the United States Army, where he ranked Specialist, 4th Class E-4, stationed in Wormes, Germany. In April of 1960 Norvie graduated from Barber School in Amarillo, Texas, and worked as a barber in Wilson, Oklahoma, for a year and a half, where he met his future life-long wife. On June 30, 1960 Norvie and Elva Ruth Broughton were married. Moving back to Shattuck in 1962, he spent the majority of the next 50 years working as a barber, most of that time in Shattuck, Oklahoma. In 1968, Norvie ran a Boot and Tack shop in addition to the barber shop. From April 1, 1984 until November 1, 1988, Norvie and Elva were owner/ operators of the Texaco Service Station in Shattuck, Oklahoma. The decision to resume his barbering career led to the sale of this business.
Norvie and Elva were blessed with three children. Nolan Alva Fitz, April 11, 1961, Lanora Juanell Fitz Dunlap, January 15, 1965, and Joe Kendall Fitz, July 14, 1972. Norvie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He also was adept at tooling leather, fashioning belts and knife sheaves. Norvie had a great appreciation for music and enjoyed playing the bones and the guitar, until he lost his fingers. Spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren was a special joy for Norvie.
