Obituary

Oy Joseph Basler passed from this life on December 2, 2009 at the age 85 after a long courageous battle with cancer. Oy, born September 28, 1924, was one of ten children born to J.I. and Estella (Adkisson) Basler. He was born in the Eureka Community, southeast of Leedey, where the family made their home.

Oy's school years were spent in the Eureka Community School.

On June 3, 1944 he was united in marriage to Miss Lucille Cummings at Cheyenne, Oklahoma. Over the next few years their family grew to six with the birth of their four children, Bobby, Patty, Jerry, and Danny. Oy and Lucille eventually moved their family to Leedey where they have remained for the past 24 years.

Oy owned and operated his own business building homes for many years. He built countless homes in the western Oklahoma area. Oy's other lifetime career, and one he truly loved, was farming.

Oy was a member of the United Methodist Church of Leedey, Oklahoma. He accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized at 62.

Oy enjoyed being outdoors. He and Lucille liked to spend time with their family at the lake. He was always ready and willing to pull the grandkids skiing or to throw a line in the water. They enjoyed traveling in their RV as well. Oy was a loving husband and father who taught his children about the important things of life. His grandchildren were a great joy to him as well.

Family preceding Oy in death are his parents, J.I. and Estella Basler; brothers, Macy, Marvin, Dempsey, Willie, Isadore, and Willard Basler and sister, Esther Graves.
