IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Pamela
Upchurch
March 6, 1952 – September 25, 2023
Pamela Denise (Seal) Upchurch was born March 6th, 1952 to Sylvia Darlyne (Coatney) and Dennis Edward Seal. The oldest of three children, she had a zeal for life and a shrewd mind that was evident from an early age. She loved playing paper dolls with her sister, Sue Ellen and talking their little brother, Don, into make-believe dress up. Growing up on the family homestead, her fondest memories included riding Trigger, fishing, and helping out with the farming chores. As a student at Taloga Public Schools, she excelled in both academics and athletics, having a particular passion for basketball that she maintained throughout her life.
She attended Southwestern State University where she obtained a degree in Medical Technology. While attending college, Pam married Jimmy Moore of Taloga, and to that union was born one daughter, MaKenzi Denise. Together they moved to Leedey, Oklahoma where they owned and operated the Leedey Quick Stop.
In 1981, Pam married Mike Upchurch, and moved to Woodward, Oklahoma. In 1983, they were blessed with a daughter, Marissa Beth. She spent her daughters' early years as a homemaker while being active in the New Horizons Methodist Church. Pam had a heart for those in need and actively sought ways to help her community. She was involved in Big Brothers Big Sisters, her local food pantry, and was instrumental in the implementation of the Gifted and Talented Program in the Woodward Public School System. Pam was her daughters' biggest supporter, driving them to every dance class, sports practice, and Oklahoma Kids activity she could manage. Her love for the arts and all things creative blossomed in her children. She was the best stage mom and an even better encourager.
Pam was a charismatic force of nature and anyone she came across would surely not forget her. She was proud to have instilled her strongest qualities of faith, bravery, confidence, independence, and compassion into her daughters.
Pam worked at the High Plains Vocational Technology Center in their financial aid sector helping youth find ways to afford their education. While working full-time and continuing her philanthropic endeavors, she raised her two daughters and attended Northwestern Oklahoma State University where she received her Masters in Psychology.
In 1996, Pam moved to Oklahoma City to serve as the Freshman Dean of Students at Oklahoma City University, where she mentored students and made them feel comfortable in their new home away from home. After leaving that position, she worked in a variety of occupations from selling quilting fabrics to oilfield leasing. She honed her skills and used her ability to talk to any and everyone to excel at each new adventure.
In her later years, Pam found her passion as a child psychologist, serving children across the metro area in her firm but loving manner. She devoted hours to helping them face their darkest times and went out of her way to provide moments of fun through field trips to the movies. In 2013, Pam was instrumental in counseling children from the Plaza Towers Elementary School in Moore who were impacted by a fatal tornado. The years afterwards working with those survivors was one of her proudest career accomplishments. She had a true love for children and was a constant cheerleader for her nieces, nephews and their children. She loved attending their sports events and opening her home when basketball or softball brought them her way.
In the last year, Pam met the true loves of her life Phoebe, Remington, Britton, and Ashtyn. Her love for her grandchildren came through in every conversation and picture shown. She was so thrilled with the new additions to her family and was the very best GramPam to all of them. Even when distance kept them apart, they would immediately light up at the sound of GramPam's voice and a glimpse of her smile over Facetime. Their little libraries are filled with books she bought them, bestowing her passion for reading as early as she could. Of all the incredible accomplishments and accolades Pam amassed in her life, her daughters and their children were her greatest joy.
Pam was called home on September 25, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents Dennis and Darlyne Seal, her first husband Jimmy Moore, her second husband Mike Upchurch, and her son-in-law Dr. Jeff Higgins. She is survived by daughter MaKenzi Higgins and partner Laura Smith, of Stilwell, KS and daughter Marissa Paine and husband Michael of Edmond, OK, grand-children Phoebe, Remington, Britton and Ashtyn, sister Sue Ellen Farris and husband Joe of Taloga, OK, brother Don Seal of Taloga, OK, and aunt Shelah Goyer and husband Gary of Olathe, KS. Pam is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family whom she adored.
