Obituary

Billie Paula Mingus was born September 27, 1945 near Stephenville, Texas, and passed away in her home in Higgins, Texas, on July 6, 2020. She was the only child of Bill and Mary (Turpin) Eckardt, but had many cousins due to her ten aunts and uncles. Paula attended Northwest Texas Hospital School of Nursing in Amarillo, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1967. She had a long career in nursing, retiring from Newman Memorial Hospital after more than 35 plus years of service. Paula wed Jerry Mingus on July 1, 1966, settled in Higgins and had two sons. Paula was active in the community and in the Church of the Nazarene seeking to lend a hand where needed. She loved a good bargain and enjoyed thrift stores and garage sales. Her later years were blessed by time spent with co-workers, friends, and extended family. Paula especially enjoyed the company of her niece, Julie Cooper, and her family. John Whitsitt also held a special place in her heart.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Wilks "Bill" Eckardt and Mary Dean (Turpin) Eckardt, her husband Jerry Lee Mingus, and her best friend, Mildred "Millie" Gill.

She is survived by her sons, Denny Lee Mingus and his wife Keisha of Lubbock, Texas, and Cody Carl Mingus and partner Candace of Eugene, Oregon. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and their children.

The family suggests memorials be sent to Higgins EMS, Box 291, Higgins, TX 79046.
