Peggy Rae (Day) Wingo Goodson, age 90, of Dumas, TX, passed away on June 28, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. She was born on June 22, 1934, in Camargo, OK, to Oan Fred and Bertha Jane (Colvard) Day. Peggy spent her formative years in Camargo, attending Camargo Public Schools where she excelled in basketball and softball, graduating with the Class of 1953.
In March of 1953, Peggy married Wilfred James Wingo in Vici, OK. Together, they raised eight children: James, Debra, Sherry, Gary, Janie, Danny, Kelly, and Misty. Peggy's life journey took her from Vici to Dumas, TX, where she resided for over 60 years. She owned and operated the Capri Motel for approximately 15 years, touching the lives of many in her community.
Peggy had a passion for fishing, crocheting, quilting, and gardening. Later in life, she relocated to Woodward, OK, and after the passing of Wilfred, she married Glenn Goodson. Peggy enjoyed dancing at the Senior Citizens Center on Friday nights and was known for her skill in checkers and culinary talents. Her kitchen was often filled with the aroma of freshly baked goods.
Peggy's faith was nurtured at the Camargo Methodist Church during her childhood. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oan and Bertha Day; her husbands, Wilfred Wingo and Glenn Goodson; her sons, James, Gary, and Danny; her sister, Pattsy Hanks; her brother, Fred Day; and her granddaughter, Mindy Hightower.
She is survived by her daughters: Debra Schuman (Pete), Sherry Easton, Janie Wingo, Kelly Hailey, and Misty Richardson (Chris); her brother, Sanie Day (Edna); her sisters: Barbara Arnold and Karen Haney; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and a multitude of cherished friends.
Funeral services will be held at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at the Camargo Mega Church, followed by interment at Sunnyside Cemetery. The arrangements are entrusted to Shaw Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Peggy's honor.
Peggy Rae (Day) Wingo Goodson will be remembered for her kind heart, unwavering strength, and the legacy of love she leaves behind. Her spirit lives on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
