Services will be Friday March 27, 2015 at 10:30 am at the First Baptist Church, Arnett, Oklahoma with burial following in Harmon Cemetery, Harmon, Oklahoma.

Portia Lee (New) Farris was born on January 7, 1927, at Fargo, Oklahoma to Ed and Dorothy New. She passed away on March 23, 2015 at the age of 88 years in Woodward, Oklahoma.

She attended Parkman School near Harmon walking 2 miles each way, then attending Arnett High School where she graduated with the class of 1944.

Portia married Earl Glenn Farris on May 25, 1946 at Woodward, Oklahoma. To this union Donald James was born on December 17, 1952. They made their home around Arnett moving to Harmon in 1952 and back to Arnett in 1963 where Portia lived until moving to Woodward in 2009, to be closer to her son.

After high school graduation Portia worked for AV Chesnut & Son as their bookkeeper for over 25 years. She later put her bookkeeping skills back to use by doing the books for the Shoafs' for their business, Grand Economy, for several years.

She was an exceptional hand quilter from cross-stitching, embroidering, appliquéing, and piecing together unique quilts. She hand quilted all of her quilts and as well as hand quilting many quilts for her sister and friends.

Portia was an avid crossword puzzler and enjoyed putting together jigsaw puzzles in her sunroom ---where she could watch the squirrels and the birds in her back yard.

She was a loving mother, sister, aunt, friend, and was loved by all.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Earl (1986), one brother Dale New, two infant brothers, brother-in-laws Walter Meier and Wayne Farris, sister-in-law Bonnie Smith and husband Edwin.

Portia is survived by her son, Donald of Woodward, Ok, her sister Emogene Meier of Arvada, Co, sister-in-law Ione New of Harmon, Ok, sister-in-law Alma (Farris) Crouch of McAlester, Ok, nieces and nephews and many friends.
