Ray Day was born October 1, 1947, in Camargo, Oklahoma. He was the sixth of seven children born to Jim W. and Mildred D. (Coursey) Day, and was born 20 minutes before his twin sister, Kay. He was a lifetime resident of Camargo. Ray accepted Christ and was later baptized at the First Christian Church of Camargo, on April 6, 1958. Ray attended Camargo Grade School and later graduated in the last senior class Camargo had in 1965. After graduating he attended Panhandle A & M for a semester and then Southwestern Oklahoma State University the next semester.
Even though they had been around each other off and on during their early years, Ray" met" the love of his life at the end of harvest season in 1966. He married Bonnie Elaine Skelton on June 23, 1967, at the First Christian Church of Camargo. A few months later, Ray enlisted in the Army Reserves. During his time in the Army Reserves he served as a drill sergeant.
Ray and Bonnie were blessed with three children: Shaila Elaine, Stachia Rachelle, and Justin Ross. Ray loved fishing, hunting, animals, and guns, but he also really loved kids. Although he only had three children of his own, he had several more he claimed over the years. Kids and animals loved Ray as much as he loved them. When he had cattle, a person could hand feed them, which all the kids loved. He also took in several dogs over the years and often said that it was because they minded better than the kids.
Ray made a career in the oilfield serving as a compressor mechanic, pipeline technician, and repairman. He retired from Enable Midstream in 2018. Ray was the Camargo Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief for many years and served on the Camargo School Board for a few years.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents Jim and Mildred Day; his siblings and their spouses: Ileta (Marvin) Allen, Arlene (Lyndon) Mercer, Gayle (first wife Virginia and second wife Ellie) Day; and Verlin Day and Linda Newton.
Ray is survived by his wife of the home Bonnie Day; his children: Shaila (Michael) Helterbrake of Chester, OK; Stachia (Mike) Gregory of Elk City, OK; and Justin Day of Camargo, OK; his twin sister Kay Salisbury and her husband Russell of Cheyenne, OK; and sister-in-law Wilma Day of Vici, OK.
