Reethia "Rita" Sibley
Reethia "Rita" Sibley was born Aug. 4, 1927, in Blossom, Texas, to Ida Cagle Sturgeon and N.J. "Newt" Sturgeon and died Oct. 20, 2008, at the age of 81.
Rita and her sister and three brothers lived in several places throughout their childhood. The family lived in Grand for a short while and moved to Arnett when Rita was in high school. She graduated from Arnett High School in 1946. Later that year, on July 17, Rita married Billy Jack Sibley in Coldwater, Kansas.
Bill and Rita had two sons, Roy and Gary Don, and one daughter, Joyce Ann. The family lived much of their time in Arnett. After the children were grown, they lived in several places in Oklahoma including Woodward and El Reno but always returned to Arnett.
Rita spent much of her life as a homemaker but also worked in real estate and trained to be an EMT. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always looked forward to visiting them. She was a very social person and spent a lot of time running around with friends. She and Bill enjoyed 53 years of marriage before he died in 1999. Later in life, she enjoyed the senior center and dressing up for dinner with her fellow members of the Red Hat Society. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Arnett.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill and her sister Hattie Johnson.
Rita is survived by her children Roy Sibley, Gary Don Sibley and wife Kim, and Joyce and Gary Collar all of Arnett; grandchildren Dawn and Jay Marks of Yukon, J.L. and Janae Collar of Edmond, J.C. Sibley and Billy Sibley of Dalhart, Texas, Gary Jack Sibley and Mike and Heather Sibley all of Arnett; three great-grandchildren, Elissa "Ellie" Marks, Jace Collar and Tyler Sibley; and three brothers Virgil and Edna Sturgeon of Neosho, Mo., Joe and Bonnie Sturgeon of Grand Prairie, Texas, and Bob and Gerry Sturgeon of Bristow.
Funeral services were at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 23, 2008, at the First Christian Church in Arnett with the Rev. Richard Royal officiating. Interment was at DeBolt Cemetery, Arnett.
