IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rex Leroy
Thompson
March 7, 1940 – December 30, 2024
Rex Leroy Thompson, son of Orval Halbert Thompson and Leone Dell (Davis) Thompson, was born on March 7, 1940, in Mutual, OK. He passed from this life on December 30, 2024, at the age of 84.
Rex's early years were spent on the family farm three miles south of Mutual, which instilled in him a strong work ethic. He attended school in Mutual through the 10th grade and completed his formal education in Wichita, KS, graduating with the class of 1958. During his high school years, Rex spent summers in Mutual and returned to Wichita in the fall, where Leone was an elementary school teacher. He remained in Kansas for a time before returning to live in Vici, OK.
Rex worked various jobs in the oilfield industry, as a heavy equipment operator, and on roadwork projects. He also enjoyed ranching. Following a lengthy courtship, Rex was united in marriage to Guylia Colleen Randolph on January 17, 2007, at the courthouse in Woodward, OK. Together, they blended their families: Guylia's children, Stephen Craig and Alisa Adele, and Rex's children, Rita Carol and Denise Dawn. In 1971, Rex and Guylia had purchased five acres of land just north of Sharon, OK, and eventually achieved their dream of building a brick home. Their home and blended family was blessed with the arrival of Chester Cody, Guy Randolph, and twins Todd Lee and Brooke Ann.
Rex was a man of many interests. In the 1970s, he enjoyed stock car racing, and beating Buck Cadwell to win a trophy was a highlight of his racing days. An avid sportsman, he was always ready for fishing trips, quail or pheasant hunting, or trap shoots. He even had a racehorse for a short time. Camping in the mountains of Colorado was especially dear to him.
Rex was a generous man with a strong arm and a steadfast heart. He laughed with, lived for, and loved his family. This was evident in his care for his beloved Guylia during the 15 years before her passing in 2020.
Rex was preceded in death by his parents, Orval and Leone; his wife, Guylia; his twins, Brooke and Todd; his brother, J.C. Thompson, and wife Delores, his nephew Gregg Thompson and other loved ones.
He leaves behind cherished memories with his children: Cody Thompson and wife Misty, Guy Thompson and wife Sierra, Rita Day and husband Joe, Denise Dauphin, Lisa Branson and husband Ryan, and Steve Randolph and wife Brenda. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. His brother, Glenn Thompson and wife Jeannie, sister in law Jarene McDowell and husband Tommy, numerous nieces and nephews, special caregiver Kay Manus, with heartfelt thanks, and Roy and Dawna Forester of Sublette, KS, as well as other relatives and many friends, who will continue to celebrate his life and legacy.
Rex will be remembered for his unwavering love, his many talents, and his dedication to family and friends.
