Richard was raised on the Dryden Family farm east of Vici, Oklahoma, and attended Sunnyside Country school, Mutual Public school, and in the third grade, transferred to the Vici Public school, graduating with the Class of 1962. He enjoyed playing basketball and baseball during his school years. After graduating, he stayed in Vici, opening his own auto mechanic shop. Richard married Janice Anderson and one son, Rich, was born to this union. In 2006, Richard accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior, and was baptized by Bill Eaton and attended the Vici First Christian Church.
