Obituary

Richard Gillum Reeves, son of Frank and Sadie (Gillum) Reeves, was born on September 8, 1933 in Allen, Oklahoma. Richard passed from this life on October 21, 2008 in Canadian, Texas at the age of 75.

Richard attended grade and high school at Allen, Oklahoma, graduating with the class of 1951. Following high school, he joined the National Guard and on January 18, 1954, Richard chose to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Army. His rank was Private First Class when his service ended on January 17, 1956 and he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. Throughout his lifetime Richard was awarded numerous civic awards and commendations.

Richard married Barbara June Hunnicutt on October 18, 1957 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. After marriage they lived in Guymon until 1965 when they moved to Higgins, Texas. Two daughters, Patricia and Teresa, blessed their union. Richard worked as a tool pusher in the oilfield industry to provide a living for his family and received many oilfield awards. He cared for his community and served many hours as a volunteer firefighter and also served on the hospital board. Richard was an active member in the Masons and American Legion organizations. He attended the Church of Christ and the Church of the Nazarene. His special interests included coin collecting, hunting, fishing, and traveling, but his favorite pastime was sharing time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Nevel Reeves and Ben F. Reeves, and sisters Opal Patterson, Mary Wilson, Johnnie Mae Lewis, Aster Boyett, Pebble Reeves, and Margaret Lacey.

Those left to cherish his memory are wife Barbara Reeves of Higgins, Texas; daughters Patty Perkins of Woodward, Oklahoma and Teresa Duncan of Lawton, Oklahoma; sisters Veda Hepner of Sacramento, California and Carolyn Manos of Ada, Oklahoma; 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, other family and a host of friends.
