Obituary

Ricky Lynn Belew passed from this life July 18, 2017 at his home in Guthrie, OK. He was born on February 16, 1955 in Vici, Oklahoma to Budley and Edna Belew. He was instantly loved by his five older siblings. At an early age his father passed away so Rick became the "apple of his mother's eye" and could do no harm. He attended Vici Public School. During the summers he worked for Frank Randall at the school making repairs to earn money for his college expenses. Upon graduating he enrolled at S.W.O.S.U. in Weatherford, then on to O.U. in Norman where he excelled and was on the honor roll. He graduated with a degree in business. After graduation he went to work for Continental Emsco and was promoted to City salesman, being the youngest to ever hold that position. While at Emsco, his friend Art Buhl and pit crew Paul Faulkner and Rick "Chili Dog" Belew won the first prize for Showmanship Oil Patch Chili. A picture and article of this appeared in the Daily Oklahoman. Due to the oil bust and economy, he and many others lost their jobs with Emsco.
He had several jobs before going to work as a Specialist with the Oklahoma Department of Safety where he with two other men were given the task of creating and designing a new drivers license which is currently being used. These two men, Don Vue and Jim Thompson, became Ricky's lifetime best friends.
For recreation, riding his motorcycle was pure delight. It was during a ride that he sustained major injuries to his neck and back. Because of his injuries he retired from the Oklahoma Department of Safety. He suffered the rest of his life from those injuries as well as having to cope with C.O.P.D.
Rick was intelligent, had a good sense of humor, was witty and a very caring person who helped others in need. He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends, especially Keith and Tyna Avey of Guthrie, OK.
Those mourning his passing are brothers: Larry Belew, Jerry Belew and wife Ann, sisters: Charlene White, Jettie McIntosh and husband Jim, Dolores Cleveland and husband Dick plus nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Budley and Edna Belew and twins, brother and sister, Darlene and Marcus Belew.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association in care of Shaw Funeral Home.
