Obituary

R.J. Hill, Jr., 71, of Gage, OK. passed away on Sunday, April 29, 2018. He was born in Belton, TX. on December 18, 1946 to R.J. Hill and Mary Frances (Young) Kessner. R.J. was raised and attended schools in Midland, TX. Gage, OK. has been home for the last 22 years.
In 1963, at the age of 17, R.J. joined the United States Navy. While in the Navy, R.J. was deployed to the Philippines. R.J. was a medic in the hospital and the pharmacy on the military base. Then in December of 1966 R.J., nicknamed "Doc Spanky",  was deployed to Vietnam and attached to Marine Corps Spear-Head Unit Kilo 3-9. R.J. was wounded five times in Vietnam on May 20, 1967. On May 21, 1967 R.J. was medevac'd back to the United States. After R.J.'s recovery, he finished his military service at the Naval Hospital in Corpus Christi, TX. R.J. was honorably discharged with numerous medals: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Purple Heart medal with Two Gold Stars awarded for wounds sustained May 20, 1967 during deployment at Quang Tri Province, Republic of Vietnam.
From R.J.'s first marriage two sons were born, R.J. Hill III (Scooter) and Ricky Hill. In 1972 R.J. met and then married his loving wife of 46 years, Lucinda (Range) Hill. To this union three children were born, April, Ronnie and Randi.
R.J. worked in the oilfield for many years as a rough neck to a drilling superintendent until he was disabled. R.J. had a passion for raising and fighting game fowl and he loved to fish and hunt. R.J. was a history enthusiast and an avid John Wayne fan. He loved spending time with his kids, grandchildren, great grandchildren and family.
R.J. was preceded in death by his parents, R.J. Hill, Sr. and Mildred Hill and Frances and Jim Kessner; brother- in-law Jake Williams and one infant grandchild.
R.J. is survived by his wife of 46 years Lucinda (Range) Hill of the home; R.J. Hill III and wife Amy of Shelbyville, KY.; Rick Hill and wife Robyn of Texarkana, TX.; April Adams and husband Joe of Ormond Beach, FL.; Ronnie Hill and wife Jennifer of Shattuck, OK.; Randi Norbury and husband Edwin of Woodward, OK. Grandchildren: Dylan and Jake; Riley and wife Brittany; Tristen, Gavin and Bailey; Ryan and Brent; Angie and husband Wally; Dylan, Bralyn and Rayden; Tyler, Kortney and Caleb; Quyntin and wife Heather; Ravin and Brad IV. Great Grandchildren: Elena: Nate and Elijah. Siblings: Sisters, Joyce Williams, Kathy Millen and Cindy Loos, Mary Callender and husband Bobby: Brothers, Bobby Hill and wife Becky and John Garvin and wife Allison. R.J. had many other family members and friends as well. R.J. will be missed dearly.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the Three Nine Associates, Inc. in care of Shaw Funeral Home.
