Obituary

Robert "Bob" Milton Strong, II was born in Amorita, Oklahoma, August 31, 1925, to Robert and Mae (Andrew) Strong. He passed from this life September 13, 2009 at the age of 84.

Bob grew up in Freedom, Oklahoma. He joined the United States Army December 14, 1948 and received the Army of Occupation Medal Japan. He transferred to the United States Army Reserve December 22, 1949. While in the army reserve, he received the Korean Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, and 8th Cavalry Regiment Combat Infantry Badge. Bob received the Purple Heart May 21, 1951, two days after he was wounded at Kungong, Korea. He achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class and was Honorably Discharged on June 30, 1953.

Bob married Peggy Jean Kennedy December 27, 1953 at the United Methodist Church, Fargo, Oklahoma. The couple was blessed with three children: daughter's Susie and Jeanie and son Robert. Bob and his family lived in Blackwell, Oklahoma and Scottsdale, Arizona before settling in Clearwater, Kansas where they remained until 1984. The family moved one last time to Fargo, Oklahoma, where Bob and Peggy have remained ever since.

Bob spent the majority of his career working for the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Department where he retired with the rank of Captain. He was a past member of Bestor G. Brown Lodge and Midian Shrine, both in Wichita, Kansas; and Ninnescah Easter Star of Clearwater, Kansas. He was a current member of the Disabled American Veterans of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Bob was always a good friend and neighbor to all. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching the cow herd grow and spending time with family and friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mae Strong; sisters, Ruby McAllister and Faye Rader; half-sister's, Maude Bishop and Hope Bullis; father-in-law, Lloyd Kennedy; mother-in-law, Cassie Kennedy; brother-in-law's Leonard Rader and Tom Schroeder; and sister-in-law, Grace Strong. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Peggy Strong of Fargo, Oklahoma; son Robert and Barbara of Fargo, Oklahoma; daughters, Susie and Mike of Henderson, Nevada, and Jeanie and Royce of Viola, Kansas; grandsons: Marty and Christine of Little Rock, Arkansas; Dennis and Emily of Bentonville, Arkansas; Jay and Lisa of Andale, Kansas; and Chad of Fargo, Oklahoma; granddaughter's, Kandie and Candi of Derby, Kansas; great-grandsons; Kade, Kale, Billy and Mitchell; great-granddaughters: Ila, Madison, Cassie and Kylie; sister, Mabelle Schroeder of Freedom, Oklahoma; brother, Kenneth Strong and wife Joan of Moore, Oklahoma; many special nephews, nieces, other family and a host of friends.
