Obituary

Dr. Robert Max Richard passed from this life on July 21, 2011 at the age of 84. He was one of eight children born to Roland R. and Edith Belle (Drake) Richard. Robert was born at home, in Harmon, Oklahoma on September 11, 1926.

He began his early school years at Harmon Elementary and transferred to Arnett High School where he graduated at the age of 16. After serving his country in the United States Navy and being honorably discharged in 1946, he went on to pursue his higher education first at Oklahoma A&M (OSU).

While attending Oklahoma A&M Robert met and fell in love with one of A&M's beauty queens, Miss Betty Ann Heavin. They were united in marriage in 1948.

Robert graduated with honors from Oklahoma A&M and was given a four year scholarship to the University of Wisconsin, where he obtained a Docorate of Philosophy degree in Animal Science and Biochemistry. After this he decided to become a medical doctor and returned to Oklahoma Universtiy where he completed his medical studies.

He and his wife, who was a secondary school teacher and school psychologist, moved to Los Angeles, CA where he served as Cardiologist and Clinical Professor of Cardiology at the Universtiy of Southern California, Los Angeles Medical Center for 20 years.

In 1965 Robert Jr. was born and was a delightful addition to the family, until he died in 2003 leaving a precious granddaughter, Madison Elizabeth Richard who is now 17 years old.

Robert spent his lifetime devoted to the care of is heart patients. He was also an avid football fan and always tried to watch the USC Trojans play.

Family members preceding Robert in death are his parents, Roland and Edith Richard, his only son, Robbie; and all his siblings, Reva Branstetter, Ruby Wieden, Roy Richard, Ralph Richard, Rex Richard, Rollin (Pat) Richard and Ruth McClung.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Betty Richard of Laguna Beach, CA; granddaughter, Madison Elizabeth Richard; many nieces, nephews and a lifetime of friends.
