Robert Edward "Eddie" Roberts was born September 29, 1925 in Orlando, OK to William and Myrtle Roberts. He was so small that he slept in a shoebox as a newborn. Being the youngest of ten children, though, he was well taken care of, and he soon grew to be a tall and strong young man. Growing up he lived in many different parts of Oklahoma, Texas, and even California.
At the age of twenty-one, he became smitten with a pretty little redhead from Higgins, TX. Eddie and Mary Louise George were married in Spearman, TX on July 28, 1947. They had four children: Tessa, Daniel, Charles, and Bonnie. The family made their home in Arnett, OK where Eddie worked for Ellis County driving a road grader. He worked hard to provide a good life for his family, and what they didn't have in material goods, he made up for in love. He always made his family his top priority.
Eddie loved to play his harmonica, and his favorite tunes were old gospel and honky tonk classics. He loved to take his sweetie for a twirl on the dance floor. As much as he loved his children, his grandchildren put a special twinkle in his eye. He delighted in telling them jokes and teaching them tricks. He also taught them important things like how to play solitaire and how to play the spoons. He showed them what it means to be a genuine, caring person, too. Eddie also had a special place in his heart for animals. Throughout his life he had a variety of pets from dogs and cats to his emus named Elvis and Priscilla and Eeyore, his pet donkey. Eddie never met a stranger, and he was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He had a peaceful nature and a smile that would light up a room.
Eddie went to be with the Lord on December 5, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers, seven sisters, and his wife Mary. He is survived by numerous family and loved ones, including: His daughter Tessa Boyer, and her husband David, their children Teri and Mark Kirby and David and Heather Boyer and grandchildren Zachary, Joshua, and Zackary. His son Daniel Roberts. His son Charles Roberts and wife Darla, their children Johnathon Roberts and Cassidy and Jessie Pollard and their grandchildren Michael and Serenity. His daughter Bonnie Bell and her husband Ronald, her children Cathy Harvey and Lori and Robert Williams, and her grandchildren Chandler, Rylee, Parker, and Jaxon.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at Debolt Cemetery in Arnett, OK. Viewing and visitation will be held at Shaw Funeral Home of Arnett (111 E. Jenkins) on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 from 9 AM to 7 PM. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Eddie's memory to the Oklahoma Humane Society.
