Obituary

Rodney Warren Hicks, 69 year old Arnett resident, passed from this life on November 16, 2014. Rodney was born on October 31, 1945 to Warren and Wanda Hicks in Shattuck, OK. Rodney grew up in the Arnett area, where he graduated from high school.

He then attended Oklahoma State University for a year before joining the military on November 28, 1966. A year later he married the love of his life Lela Helen (Miller) Hicks on August 3, 1967 at the Arnett Methodist Church. To this union of 47 years two children, Amy Alesia Hicks and Rodney Warren Hicks, Jr. were born. Shortly after his marriage, Rodney was promoted to warrant officer as he completed his helicopter training at Ft. Rucker, AL. He served as a helicopter pilot during Vietnam and was then stationed at Ft. Sill. During his service Rodney received a bronze star, air commendation medal, Vietnam service award, and army aviation award. After being honorably discharged on December 19, 1968, Rodney put his love of flying to a new purpose as a spray pilot in Arnett, OK.

In his spare time, Rodney enjoyed hunting, fishing, and snow skiing, and boating. His favorite pastime, however, was sharing these hobbies with his grandchildren. Rodney was a 32nd degree Mason of the Arnett Lodge #192, and was a member of the American Legion, and the First Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Rodney was preceded in death by grandmothers, Mae Hicks and Alta Bullard; uncles Kenneth Hicks, Glen Hicks, Neal Bullard; and aunt Doris Bullard.
