Ronald Lee Mead, 85 -year-old resident of Shattuck, OK, passed from this life on April 14, 2023 in Shattuck, OK. Ron was born on October 5, 1937, to William "Buck" Ronald and Ruth Francis (Hopkins) Mead in Greensburg, KS. He attended grade school at a country school in Greensburg, KS and Mullinville, KS, junior high school at Coldwater, KS and high school at Greensburg, KS. Early in life, Ronald went to work as a ranch hand in different ranches in Kansas, Colorado, and New Mexico. He was not afraid of hard work and waking up early to watch the sun rise over the herd.

Ron family roots run deep in southern Kansas area. His family was one of the four founding families of Greensburg and is displayed in the Big Well Museum. On December 10, 1971, he married Donna Jean (Welch) Mead, welcoming three children into his life as well, son Vernon "Bud," and daughters Christeena and Ginger. To this union two further children were born, son Colt Lee and daughter Ronica Jill. The family made their home in Greensburg for a time, before moving to various places in Colorado, Oklahoma, Texas and Wyoming. Once the work was completed, he enjoyed team roping and cutting.

Ron was preceded in death by his daughter, Ronica Laverty; parents, Buck and Ruth Mead; sister, Karen Copeland; and son-in-law, Rocky Indiek.

He leaves behind wife, Donna; sister, Marjorie Schmidt of Greensburg, KS; brother-in-law, Richard Long of Dodge City, KS; son, Vernon "Bud" Wallis of Buffalo, OK; daughter, Christeena Jackson of Dodge City, KS; daughter Ginger Wallace and husband Paul of Slapout, OK; and son, Colt Mead and wife Jeny of Shattuck, OK; 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews; and a host of family, friends, and loved ones.
