Obituary

Rose Ellen Cloud Stroman was born on February 14, 1922 in Newberg, Oregon and died on June 21, 2013 in Columbia, Missouri at the age of 91 years. The second of ten children of Homer Cloud, Sr. and Ethel Hostutler Cloud, she returned with her family to Higgins, Texas where she remained until her graduation from high school as valedictorian in 1940.

After moving to Corpus Christi, Rose Ellen met Henry Womack Stroman, a Naval Aviator. They were married on September 12, 1943. With this union, many roles began that Rose Ellen cherished deeply: devoted wife, loving mother, military officer's wife, and pastor's wife. Following the end of World War II and Womack's graduation from Nazarene Theological Seminary, they pastored in Texas until Womack chose to re-enter the Navy as a chaplain. Rose Ellen moved with him throughout the country, as his military career took them from coast to coast. During Womack's extended deployments in Korea and aboard Navy ships Rose Ellen's loving and skillful home leadership kept the family on track. Later in life, she was often heard to exclaim that she had lived in 30 different duty locations during their military career and she "loved every one of them."

Following Womack's retirement from the US Navy, Rose Ellen assumed the role of Womack's partner in ministry as his work took him to Russellville, AR; Fort Smith, AR; Shattuck, OK; Vilonia, AR, and Conway, AR. Following Womack's death, she came to live with her youngest daughter and participated fully in their lives in Arkansas and Missouri.

Rose Ellen is preceded in death by her parents and her husband; by her brothers Homer Jr, Donald, and Dennis; and by her sisters Sharon and Hope. She is survived by sisters Lois Thrasher of Pampa Texas; Eunice Fechner of Bethany, Oklahoma; Alice Jernigan of Blackwell, Oklahoma; and Grace Zweiacher of Gallup, New Mexico; five children: David Stroman and his wife Janice of Irving, Texas; Janice Durst and her husband Bob of St. Simon Island, Georgia; Elizabeth Brower and her husband Tom of Jacksonville, Florida; Rose Ann Hall and her husband Les of Columbia, MO; and John Stroman and his wife Brenda of Omaha, Nebraska; seven grandchildren, and four great grand-children.

Throughout her life, Rose Ellen had a love of music, expressed through playing the piano and listening to all venues of music on the radio. She was an accomplished seamstress, an immaculate housekeeper, and was described by some as "one of the most organized people they had ever met." She worked thousands of jigsaw puzzles during her life, especially loving puzzles with pictures of birds or beautiful scenery.

Visitation will be held at First Church of the Nazarene in Higgins, Texas at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 24, 2013, with a graveside service to follow at Higgins Cemetery at 2:00 PM. Donations may be made in her honor to the Alzheimer's Association.
