Roy "Monk" Leonard Robinson was born to Joe and Florence Robinson in Camargo, Oklahoma on June 1, 1931. He passed from this life on August 24, 2007 at the age of 76. Monk attended both grade school and high school in Camargo. After graduating, Monk bought two "A" Gleaner Baldwin combines and joined the Bryant family to form the Sooner Custom Harvesting crew. When not cutting wheat, Monk helped his father and mother farm and ranch. After several years of custom cutting, Monk shut down his combines and began to help his parents, full time, on the farm. When Monk had a break from farm work, he and best friend Cleo Moran would load up and go to any ballgame or rodeo they could find.
On March 12, 1974 Monk married Meredith Ann Holley in Seiling, Oklahoma. Believing there was not a better place to raise a family, Monk and Meredith continued to make their home in Camargo. The family they had dreamed of began to take shape on February 18, 1975 with the birth of their first son, John Webster. On April 7, 1976 the Robinson family grew once again after second son, Aaron Roy, was born. On January 23, 1978 Monk and Meredith welcomed their third son, Roger Lynn.
Monk shared his love of farming and raising cattle with his sons and enjoyed teaching them the trade. Another activity he derived joy from was the time he and his family spent each year on the South Canadian Trail Ride. This adventure supplied him with many stories for years to come. Another great joy for Monk was watching all three of his sons at stock shows and ballgames. He was very involved in the Vici FFA and was honored with the Appreciation Award. He also went on to receive the state honorary FFA degree, of which he was very proud. Monk was longtime brother of the Vici Masonic Lodge No. 465, joining in 1970. He was also a member of the Camargo Alumni Association and the South Canadian Neighbors Association. Monk was a generous supporter of his community and helped build the Fire Department, the First Christian Church, and the new Community Center. Every year Monk looked forward to the Holley family fishing trip at Ft. Gibson Lake. He took great pleasure in his position as the official skillet washer, boat drive, and jug counter while at the lake. This summer Monk was kept busy helping John, Aaron, and Roger haul hay and keeping them in line.
Monk gained the most delight from spending time with his granddaughters, 10 year old Ariana and 2 year old Lexie. Papa Monk always had a dollar ready when he saw them coming. He was content to just sit in his chair and watch them play.
Monk loved sitting at the Camargo store looking for good conversation and bragging about his boys. He was very proud of John's commitment to carrying on the "Robinson Poor Farm" with Aaron and Roger and his knowledge of the farming operation. He enjoyed telling anyone who would listen about how Aaron could build anything with a piece of metal and was able to keep the farm machinery running smoothly. He also liked to show off all of Roger's tractor driving trophies and bragging that his son was the best tractor drive in the county, if not the state.
Monk's biggest passion was his "Little Queen", Meredith, and her excellent cooking. This last year they enjoyed their time together making jelly and bread and butter pickles. Another activity they enjoyed together was attending the Dewey County Fair at Taloga where Monk worked as the official gate operator at the stock show. They also enjoyed visiting family and friends. He enjoyed gathering with his brother and sister to reminisce about their early years.
Monk was a great supporter of the First Christian Church in Camargo and was always the first to volunteer when anything or anyone needed help. Monk's faith in God was reinforced over the past year and he found great strength in his church, family, and community.
Monk was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Florence Robinson of Camargo.
