Russell Lewayne Conine, 75-year-old resident of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed from this life on September 15, 2026, at his home.
Russell was born on April 25, 1951, in Mooreland, Oklahoma, to Russell Eugene and Dorothy Lee (McClaren) Conine. He grew up in Woodward, Oklahoma, where he attended Woodward Public Schools. Following high school, Russell attended trade school and trained to become a machinist. He later worked as an accounts manager for an engineering company.
Russell was a firm believer in God and had a deep love for the Lord. His faith was an important part of his life, and he faithfully spent time in prayer each day.
Throughout his life, Russell enjoyed many interests and hobbies, but flying was truly his passion. In the early 1980s, he earned his private pilot’s license. If Russell was not working, there was a good chance he could be found at the airport working on one of his airplanes. He proudly owned two planes, affectionately named “Miss Mooney” and “Honey Bee.” Some of his favorite times were spent at the airport enjoying barbecues and plenty of “gossip sessions” with his airport buddies.
Russell also had a love for anything fast. He enjoyed NASCAR, motorcycles, and especially his white Corvette Stingray, which he lovingly named “Kitty Vette.” He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed cheering for the OU Sooners, watching just about any football game, especially the Kansas City Chiefs, and following the Oklahoma City Thunder.
He loved his dogs and appreciated good food—although those who knew him best would quickly admit that he could be very picky about what he ate.
Of all the things Russell enjoyed throughout his life, nothing compared to the love and pride he had for his daughter, Kelli D. Conine, whom he affectionately referred to as “My Lovely Daughter.” She held a very special place in his heart and was a tremendous source of joy and pride throughout his life.
Russell also dearly loved his extended family. He enjoyed teasing and joking with his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. From the Armstrong group of kids to the Pittman group of kids, Russell shared countless laughs and memories with them and will forever be loved and remembered by them.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents, Russell E. and Dorothy L. Conine.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter, Kelli D. Conine of Norman, Oklahoma; his sister, Linda Armstrong and husband Van of Weatherford, Oklahoma; his nieces, Monica Waggoner and husband Troy of Foss Lake, Oklahoma, and Stephanie Creveling and husband Kyle of Clinton, Oklahoma; along with his many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members, airport friends, and many other friends.
